Hi...hoping for a miracle here....

my 01 7.3 (110k) has seemingly hyrdolocked...or something...

it's been running great. new fuel filter, new oil, new treated fuel...no problems. I went to start it (heated garage)...when it normally should have caught it started to die. I let off the key, said hmmm... Tried again. This time it turned over once and that was it....stopped like a dead battery. Batteries are a week old -HD cells. Threw a boost charger on it to see...
Nothing...like it hydro locked. -Turned over until the cylendars(sp?) built pressure and stopped

drained the fuel bowl....clean...

it ran great. it's last few run cycles have been for about 2 minutes each (in and out ot the garage while Por'ing the frame...maybe had 8 or so of these two minute run cycles....now it's dead.

did i clog a rear fuel vaccum line with Por?....but the thing just doesn't turn over...

help!!

i would bet this truck has had a injector repair , what i have seen is whoever did the repair didnt tighten the injector enough and it works loose over some miles and the compression burns the copper washer on the bottom of the injector , then burns the second o-ring which holds the fuel , causing it to dump fuel into the cylinder , need to remove valve covers , remove glow plugs and bump it over and see which cylinder it is , remove the injector at that point , and see what it is

though i'm feeling pretty cursed, it sounds like i may have gotten lucky that i wasn't driving it at the time of failure.
probably would have bent internals up good if this thing had locked while running down the road....

as i mentioned in PM, thank you Scuffy!! -you're a great dude!

i had this very thing happen last summer while driving, it seemed to loose power and smoked alot, when i pulled over and killed it, it hydrolocked and would not crank over again. Tech at Ford said #5 injector was "loose in the hole"...which i think it what scott described above.
Crawl under the truck and look for fuel comming from one of the cyl. It will leak out by the exhaust manifold telling you which cyl it is i think. Then you just have to replace that injector.

thanks everyone!!

for giggles, i twisted the key the next morning to see if it was still bound up....it seemed to be. I thought to put a wrench on the crank to be sure i couldn't turn it....it spun.

chased the wires to the starter and saw a big crack in the end cap, figuring this was crap too, i replaced it and she fired right up.

Wah-hoo!

got to thinking after all this and, if one would truely be hydrolocked the starter would make that good old high voltage arc-ing sound while trying to turn it over....and it wouldn't have spun with a wrench.

thanks guys! even though it ended up being a simple problem (thankfully) I again learned a lot!!

-peace out
