I saw somewhere that someone was recommending axle brackets/braces to prevent axle wrap. My truck is basically stock and I still get the shudder of axle wrap under hard acceleration. Can someone recommend a product for a stock truck with no lift. May add a SCT x3 at some point but not looking to go nuts with anything.
stock and you get axle wrap? during normal driving? hmm thats weird. well you could buy some traction bars. or you could clamp the rear springs but that sucks for everyday driving.
when i had my 4inch lift i didnt have trac bars and only when i did a boosted launch did i ever deal with axle wrap. but check out some traction bars. fabtech, pro comp, they all make them
I have 5 inch icon rear leaf springs and stock f350 blocks and have absolutely no shutter at take off. I have a one pice driveshaft though. it doesnt get any driveline vibration or bouncing.
it either hooks and goes hard or spins tires and then goes. Never bounces up and down or anything. That is why I am debating thr need for traction bars. I dotn want ot jeopardise my ride and don't drag race my truck.
Let me tell ya - i am prolly one of the worst people when it comes to not loosing ride quality. When joe made the bars for me he said let me know if there is any degraded ride quality or offroadability.
I off road my truck as well.
I will say i did not loose any drivability - i actually gained some - the tires hook up and grab much better then before... its like i was loosing power by making the springs bend up before.
And offroad, I tried a few times and there has never been a problem. Joe @ cjcustoms uses a spherical bushing so you can get 360 degrees of rotation out of each bar - this is important for us offroaders.
the videos are really crappy... but ill bet if you do the same test in your truck you will see axle wrap
well I am the burn out king then lol. I can basically burnout any time I please. Maybe my aftermarket rear springs help me limit the axle wrap. All I know is I did a 4 wheel drive burnout saturday night and it was sick lol. 2wd I can easily break my tires loose. I know I will eventually either buy them or make my own. I am just trying not to spend money for a while. I might try and make my own though
Price quote? Sure, My truck is stock, suspension and all but I am thinking about going up a size on the tires when I get new ones in the next month or so. I don't plan on lifting it any though.
Yep with the adjustable bar you can add lift without having to move the upper mount on the frame rail.
Also makes install easier since the upper mount doesn't have to be perfectly in place as it would have to be with a fixed bar.
And make them easier/cheaper to ship since they aren't overly long.
I'll get some pricing later on today for the different bars that will work on a Long Bed.
80" fixed bar w/large gusset, weld-on axle mount $673.49
80" fixed bar w/small gusset, weld-on axle mount $623.49
80" fixed bar w/large gusset, bolt-on axle mount $872.74
80" fixed bar w/small gusset, bolt-on axle mount $822.74
Adjustable bar w/large gusset, weld-on axle mount $767.21
Adjustable bar w/small gusset, weld-on axle mount $716.34
Adjustable bar w/large gusset, bolt-on axle mount $966.46
Adjustable bar w/small gusset, bolt-on axle mount $915.59
On a stock height truck or anything with 35" tires or smaller, I'd recommend the small gusset as the large gusset will hang down pretty far. Large Gusset looks best on 37s and larger IMO.
I talked to Joe 1 or 2 years ago. And if I ever get my wifes bills paid down I will definatly get a hold of him for some bars. My truck with no lift get bad hop. It did with no chip and it does with a chip.
It's a lot lower than it was but with the econ down I can't make as high of payments as I was. So I make sure to keep everything on 0 interest so I'm not putting out more money for interst
Yep, I'm very active here.....we are supporting vendors here.
And yes Joe did buy a set of One Up Offroad traction blocks with the adjustable bar prior to making his own......they were purchased back by OUO and sold "used" to another guy from FTW:
As far as I know Joe does not have or offer adjustable bars - maybe now he does.
from the pics i notice the design is different from oru to joe's
but all these pics are hard to tell....
anyway
I would not need adjustable for my truck... its staying at 6" on 37's - thats IT!
i do too much hauling and such to worry about keeping an adjustment mechanism tight.
I am sure no matter what bar these guys go with it will do the job. I just have no experience with adjustable tubes like you mentioned so i cant say anything about those - since i do not under stand it.
good luck all, thanks for the info DC on the products.
i understand without seeing it in person i keep thinking of those extend a bars that you see on fishing nets with the little spring balls that pop out... im sure thats not how it is setup, but that vision keeps popping in my head... or like the flag poles etc...
just my poor visualization skills...
as far as price for bars... if they use genuine US steel and real deal tubing... those prices are competitive in my opinion.
I am sure some people can do better and some people will do worse
now if you want cheap (junk) tubing just hit up any old ebay site with bars for sale for 100 bux, If you want i can sell you my fishing net for 100 bux and it may work just as well as those ebay junkers.
there are reasons the bars listed are pricey and i believe Joes bars would be on scale with those prices... but i know Joe uses top notch stuff and thats what makes them pricey... if you want china steel that will snap if you yell at it... then go see Ebay
Im just having fun in this thread... if anybody really wants to know anything... email me or contact Joe ...
I am not in love with that design but i hope it works for you...
good luck getting the rear spring eye bolt out to get that hunk of metal in there - it looks like it goes where the spring eye bolt is ... is that right?
theres not much space in there on my truck and others ive seen -- like i said... best of luck - am curious how it works out
I have a question about hauling 5ver's with any kind of traction bars, even with the caltracs. Does it limit any suspension movement, say hauling a 35 foot trailer, over a road that requires alot of suspension travel?
I do not know about a 5th wheel trailer... but i have had my truck overloaded with pumpkins, and fire wood with a trailer hooked to the back carrying 2 atvs and more wood and i had no issues... actually it felt great
now you see that block really makes the pinion angle not move. I dont know if the previous guy didnt install them with enough tension but the pinion angle still changes drastically for having traction bars. OUO seems like a much better setup in my mind
