Hello Folks,
I am not a Powerstroke mechanic but I have to fix one. I hope you experts can give me some help. My buddy called me to come get him because his truck just stopped and won't restart. I tow it to my garage and here is what I have found.
-1997 f250 powerstroke 120K miles 5 speed
-Engine cranked over but no fire at all
- no check engine light
-I looked in the fuse box and found a 30A fuse blown, can't remember the number but it powers the fuel filter heater and glow plugs. I tried refusing it but it blew again, so I unplug the filter heater connection and refuse it, no more blown fuses and the glow plugs work good again.
-still no fire
-I checked the fuel pressure at the schrader valve while cranking, I get about 45 lbs or a little more, it is hard to do by yourself.
- I decide that it is probably a Cam Position sensor, so I get a new one and swap it out, no change, still won't start.
-I check the oil level in the high presure reservoir- it looks about half full so I fill it up. No change
_ checked the engine oil level, it was a little low so I topped it off, still won't start.
I am out of ideas, what do you guys think? By the way I don't have access to a scanner. Also please remember that I am a Cummins guy and I am not up with the lingo that you guys use on these 'Strokers so please spell it out for me. I really want this thing out of my garage so I would really appreciate any help you folks can provide.
