even when i plug 'er in all night, the heater isnt hot, its warm. my buddys trucks heater gets HOT.
also my temp BARELY gets to the N in normal when driving, idle time gets to the C and sometimes will get to the bracket before the N.
my t-stat is opening and closing. top rad hose is soft at first start and is stiff & hot when engine is warm. i looked and didnt see any valves on the hoses to the heater core.
been thinking bout the diesel site t-stat but if that aint my problem, i wanna get it fixed first.
truck is in my sig, and the coldest its been so far this season is like 38 one night, mainly 50s at night and 80 in the day.
when i plug my truck in, it is in the low 20's. i have never had any issues with it starting and wariming up at temps above that. when i do plug it in, it isnt real hot, but warm enought to ease the starting. i dont think its supposed to get hot, it just warms it up enough to help with cold starts.
Make sure your cooling system is clear full, when I lived up north, people would come in sayign their car had no heat, 1/2 the time the radiator was low on coolant.
Low on coolant is a good point, maybe your heater core is plugged up is another possibility. If you get heat but it takes along time or only on a hiway run maybe your t-stat is stuck open.
coolant is fresh & full. T-stat cycles, as i said hose is soft & cool till shes warm then pressurized and hot. core bein plugged i didnt think about. hmmmm
Thermostat maybe something like 140 or 160. You can change it out for a 180 which is what should be in there. If your radiator is clogged then your truck should be running hotter then normal not colder.
Is your fan clutch working properly. If it is staying engaged then it will be locked up and the fan will be spinning the same speed as the engine. There for it will pull in a lot of air all the time. Meaning you would really have to work the engine to get it to warm up.
my dads truck was doing the same thing..later found out it was the water pump going out..replaced the water pump got the heat back
