I everyone I just picked up my new truck, its an 07 350 drw with crew cab. I love this thing the 6.0 has alot more power than my 7.3. but I was wondering if ther is anything i should worie about seeing as how they have so many rumors about them. also i was looking at the exhaust and notinced a can before the muffler and wanted to know is this a cat or what and should it be removed before i install a chip. Thanks

congrats on the new rig bud....

those horror stories are more towards the 03 6.0L's

i wouldnt worry about your truck... headstuds might be the only upgrade you need to do if your gonna run big tunes...

i would straight pipe your exhaust or get a 4" before you do the tuner....

also dont forget your gauges...

remember only go with a custom tuned SCT.. skip the rest :)

:agree: Yea, what he said...

I own the same truck, only a King Ranch... 07 KR CrewCab, Dually, LWB 4x4..
I have owned an 06, same truck... Had a little lapse of sense and went to a Silverado for 8 months, but it was doing R&D for the Owners towing our off-road trailers at Bushtracker, as it is a nice luxury car, but I love the feeling of a tough truck... And now I am back home... :icon_ford: No problems with either Fords...

From a couple of years of research, and seeing 20 of the 6.0s running here towing Bushtrackers, he is pretty much right on... That can in front of the exhaust is the Cat.. I punched mine out on the 06, sounds a bit better but did not notice much else from it...

After trying a SuperChips on my 7.3, Edge Platinum with Attitude on my 06 KR, and Quadzilla on my Silverado.... I have just ordered SCT Xcal3/Livewire And an EGT Probe... And I am looking to increase the exhaust to say 4", maybe 3.5 downtube to 4" exhaust.. This is all geared to maximum fuel economy for really remote areas....

All of this is for extreme towing in one of the most remote places on earth. With my research, all 120 of these 6.0s converted to right hand drive here in Australia, there is a 5-8% chance of blowing a Head Gasket or EGR Cooler... It is hard to base a judgement on such a small number of trucks, but it is an indication. Most of those that had problems would be chipped up trucks, and I will stay on Economy Mode ... If I can organize it, I am planning a Cab off Head Stud job and EGR Blockoff. For you? I would say don't bother unless you are into Tractor Pulls or Street Rodding.. Odds are in your favour of not needing it by 95%

I may do it, but that is because the cost of a breakdown way out west, might be thousands of kilometres of recovery, MORE than the cost of the engine upgrade... For you, a Dealer or repair is right around the corner, for us here it is remote to none. Hense the great deal of research I do both in Australia and on this wonderful Forum...

Also, my research is extensive, because my King Ranch cost $120,000 here in Oz... :yikes: Right now that is about $95,000 U.S. and when I bought it was about $110,000 U.S... Got to love your Ford if you pay that kind of money! Luxury tax of about 10k, import duty, 10k in shipping, 30,000 for conversion to new dash, new steering, firewall and all the rest.... You bloody well have to care a lot when you fork out that kind of dough. I think my research and advice is correct, because the statistics are about the same on the trucks from Oz to America... :thumb:

Best Regards, hope a help, lone Ranger in Australia...:flag::flag::beer:

Question for you, LoneRanger - you gotta be able to buy the rice burners a lot cheaper than that in Oz, especially as they are made in RHD. What makes the PS worth that much more?

thanks for the info guys I have to say i was a little concerned when i bought it but most everyone on this forum says great things about them tho.
Wow lone ranger I like the dedication to ford, and by the stats you gave it sound like the 6.0 has just as many problems as any other diesel on the market or even less.
and just a quick question i know everyone says go with sct but has anyone had any luck with the ts mp-8 chip. also does removing the cat have any warranty repercussion. thanks

Nothing to be concerned about. My 06 F350 has held up quite well, no problems at all. 84k miles now. There were some troubles with the 6.0 in 03 and 04, but they've long since been cleared up. As well, there are many happy 03 and 04 6.0 owners out there, you just don't hear them raising the roof like the people who had trouble.

If you go the tuner route, thoroughly research what's involved, they can fry a very expensive engine. There's a lot more to it than just plugging in the tuner and roaring off. When I've heard of problems with a later 6.0 around here, it's usually heat related: egr cooler, head gaskets, and there is almost always a tuner involved.

Wow,
My 06 King Ranch was the exact same colour... I ended up putting a 2" lift in the front and 4" in the back... To carry a heavy 6mm plated steel Bullbar and 16.5 Warn Winch, I added Firestone air bags inside the coils. I put Pro-Comp shocks on all around, and Pro-comp ladder rack supports on the rear end.

Awesome truck.... Regards from Australia, lone Ranger..:thumb::icon_ford:

whoa whoa raul LOL..03s are great trucks..have never had a SINGLE problem with him..i ever replaced my head bolts with arp studs and they were fine when they opened the engine. egr delete and didnt have a bad cooler or a valve. IMO the 03s seem to be the better year truck.

either way congrats on the new rig. good luck :thumb:
