First of all i should say i finally decided to join the diesel club...always enjoyed watching vids of 8000 pound rigs hauling ***. I have some basic questions i was looking around for a while and couldn't find it.(that or im just a newb and dont know what im doing) Iv already spent a few days trying to digest everything. Here goes...
I picked up a clean 01 powerstroke with 260k miles. Its been really well taken care of and judging by the brake pedal it hasn't been through a lot of stop and go. All the axle seals are perfect and tranny fluid is clean and shifts good.
Now here is my question:
my bargaining point on this rig was actually this problem.
Im pretty sure my truck has a burned exhaust valve on the drivers side...main reason i think that is when i crank the truck its smooth and then speeds up for a second. not a smooth steady crank like i read they are supposed to have.
The truck still runs good and idles pretty damn good ...its weaker than my freinds 7.3 though. I can also hear a steady tick at idle on the drivers side. I still need to do a compression test to see what cylinder is the culprit.
I have a great deal of experience working on gas engines but i have never owned a diesel. But i did my homework and decided the 7.3 was for me and i have always owned fords mainly so decided to stick with what i am familiar with.
My basic question is how hard is it to tear the top end off these trucks.Anything else that it could be ? How bad is it to run this truck on a burned exhaust valve... Im planning to get a manual for it asap....its not my daily driver by any means she is just sitting pretty in my driveway while im learning about it.
