My dad has an 05 F-250 4x4 ex cab shortbed and he was wondering what kind of fuel mileage he should be seeing. Right now he's looking at 11 in town and 14 on the highway.

is it lifted? larger than stock tires?

in stock setup he should be seing somewhere in the 14-15 city and 17-18 highway....

their are a few things he can do to get his MPG up....

make sure his fitlers are clean... check tire pressure and make sure they are properly inflated....

after that he an start moding... 4" exhaust and SCT with a econo tune....

that should get him a couple more....

let me know if you have any questions

The truck is at stock height and he does have a 4in turbo back exhaust. He is looking into a intake and an SCT. The filters were just changed at the dealership after having some over fueling issues.

Hate to say it but he drives like a grandpa going to church on sunday. From what he’s told me and from personal experience he hasn't even had it to the floor yet.

I think it's a combination of 2 things. I live in California and the ULSD. My truck has a different flash than trucks that aren't California trucks because of emissions and that ruined the mileage and the ULSD doesn't help either. Used to get 14 driving like a teenager but now drive mello and get 11. Maybe I'll take up the teenager driving style again.

if you can get a cfn card they are still selling just low sulfer diesel not ulsd. i am getting an average of 20 mpg on ulsd but my truck ic from canada so that might make a differance
:dunno:

What gearing does he have in the rear end? He should be doing better than that

Honestly I don't know. All I can say is that they are stock from the factory. The more I think about it the more I believe he must have a couple bad injectors or something wrong with the computer. Then again the truck seems to run correctly. He might get it straightened out when he gets his tuner.

My uncle gets about 11-12 mpg empty, but his truck is a F-350 tow boss, with the 4.10's in the rear, and stock everthing. I get 12.5-13 towing the crawler in the mountains, and 16-17 back and forth to work.

What tune were you running?

Hey not to Hijack or anything but i saw everybody else numbers and now I'm wondering. I have an 05 6.0 with 35 in. tires and a leveling kit in the front. I have an intake and a Catback exhaust too and I'm only seeing 10 MPG around town.....any help?

#23 ·
Put the cat on the shelf that will help some. Then get gauges and a tuner, Your MPG is really low IMO

I have an exhaust cut out on my truck that is before the cat and when I run that open I don't see a huge difference. I want to get a tuner soon, but I was thinking that my numbers should still be better than 10 MPG stock.

What gearing is in your rear end?

#27 ·
yeah you should be getting better than 10mpg. How many miles on it, when was the last time your oil and fuel filters were changed?

#29 ·
Has the mileage always been that bad?
Do you run any fuel additives

#33 ·
I've only had the truck for about 6 months now and as far as i can remember its been like that. I run standadyne fuel additive through it once in a while. Any ideas to what might be causing this mileage or how to fix it?:dunno:

I'm currently pulling just under 16 according the the lie o meter around town. I've hand calc'ed mine several times and the meter is usually within .2 MPG. I've seen North of 18 on the Highway running 85.

Only mod on the truck is a soft tonnue from Ford, and I converted the intake back to stock.

Change your fuel filters and look into a tuner

#47 ·
You dont do that with most additives. The only one I know for sure you do that is with RBP's stuff

my uncles 06 6.0l gets 18 on the highway towing alunimium trailers
