Half power at start??

I've got a 96 7.3 PSD and sometimes if it sits for a few days it seems like it has half power for 5-10 minutes till it warms up. Seems like after it runs a mile or so it picks right up where it should be. Any idea what this could be?

Thanks!

How cold is it where you are. Sounds like the oil needs to get to operating temp

It's been 60's at night and 85 day.

No missing at all. Just short on power.

I can floor it and it just doesnt want to go. Then after a few blocks and warming up it just comes to life.

When I bought it, the guy said he think the glow plugs may be going because it's been kind of "cold starting". Could this be what he is referring to?

Sounds to me like the EBPV might be sticking actually

Garret makes the turbo for ford its probably the stocker

Yep the stock turbos were made by Garret, and every one that I have seen says so on the housing.

Nope. It's the piece inbetween the turbo housing the and downpipe. I did a DIY delete on mine.

disconnect the downpipe, air-intake tube, and EBPV wire (front right of turbo). Remove the turbo. Remove the EBPV from the turbo housing (3 screws on side). Cover the turbo (and air intake tube) to ensure no dirt or debris gets in there.

With the EBPV off of turbo, drill out the 2 rivets holding the butterfly valve in place. Once the rivets are off the valve will come out and the hinge will fall out of the bottom. You'll need to hammer in a brass freeze plug to plug the hole left by the hinge. I don't remember off of the top of my head what size the freeze plug was, but just use a measuring tape, get the size, and head off to Autozone (or where ever). Use a brass punch tool and hammer to hammer in the freeze plug. Viola! DIY EBPV removal!

I would recommend also cutting off the arm from the EBPV solenoid on the turbo pedastal so that it doesn't get in the way or break something. Hook the EBPV wiring back up to avoid a CEL.

Reassamble and you're ready to go!
