I have wanted a diesel for longer than I can even remember. I have been a cummins fan for a pretty long time, and have researched alot more about them than I have the powerstrokes. Lately though, the powerstrokes have grown on me some. I want something with a standard transmission (no desire to have an auto) what motor do I want to be looking for? I am not really sure of any of the issues with the 7.3 or the 6.0. Any info is appreciated. Thanks guys

If you plan on doing any real towing I highly recomend the 7.3L. If you're looking for a daily driver with the ocassional tow go with the 6.0L cause it gets better MPGs. They're both 300,000 mile engines if you take care of them. Also, the 6.0L is a much more quite and refined motor than the 7.3L.

I would stay away from the 6.0L if your going to do any mods to it other than say and intake...they have several issues that can run a bill threw the roof in a matter of minutes...the 7.3L's are "bullet proof" so i would play it safe, there a little on the slower side but put 400$ into it and you can get 19-21mpg and have a decent amount of power by intake and exhaust..

if you've never owned a diesel, a 7.3 with intake and exhaust will seem to have PLENTY of power especially if you're used to driving gas trucks.

My plan is to buy something and keep it for a very long time. Start small with an intake, exhaust, and a chip. As I learn more about the diesels, I want to do 1 major project a year. So, sooner or later, I hope to be building some pretty decent power. You guys think i should be looking for a 7.3?

My 6.0 has been awesome!!!! 55,000 miles all looney tuned and driven hard... Tows awesome....never had any problem and not a sign of anything bad to come.....Even lifted and 35s and still get 18-20mpg on highway
