are you asking if you need a oil cooler or a coolant filter?

The fact that you said you will chemically flush the cooling system especially increases the chances of having to replace the oil cooler because all the rust and silicate buildup will break loose and end up getting stuck in the first thing that they can't fit through---your oil cooler! You will need the coolant filter afterwards to try and catch any smaller debris that is too small to get stuck in the oil cooler currently though. the thing about coolant filters is that they do work to catch any small debris that is just floating around in your cooling system but it only filters a very small amount of coolant at a time so the oil cooler will get clogged long before your coolant filter will catch the debris in the system. The only thing that ELC will do for you is that over time it won't create a silicate goo like the ford gold coolant does.

Edit* Here is a pic that I found of the coolant flush that I did this summer (I didn't do a chemical flush I just used distilled water and refilled with ford gold coolant). Everything in the bottom of the bucket came out of the drivers side block plug and is what I think is casting sand that was floating around in the system from the time that they made the engine. Now imagine what all breaks loose when you use chemicals to help clean the cooling system!
