I'm looking at ordering an intake and wondering what set up is better the open style that replaces the battery box as part of the intake like the afe stg2 or something sealed like an s&b ?
im running the afe intake your talking about, nothing to complain about here! certainly made the turbo whistle louder! and its approved for all 50 states to boot!
I have the AFE stage 1 with their box and the proguard 7 and it works awesome for me. The seal and fit is good and I wanted the maximum protection oiled filter, plus I got to keep my battery box. It is a little bit of a pain in the butt to take in and out but I wanted the ability to put my Donaldson back on in case of really dirty conditions like the desert or the beach. My buddy had the exact same setup as me except with a S&B and there is no noticable difference in power. If you are not worried about dirt or filtration, spend the extra $80 and get the S&B though. Their filter takes 30 secs to get out and they have a disposable filter if you are really lazy . Def a big plus.
That's why I had 2 re-usable filters-
So I could keep one clean and oiled on the shelf so when it's time to clean the dirty one I'm not stuck waiting for it to dry to oil it, just swap the dirty one out for the one I have ready to go on my shelf. Wash and oil the dirty filter and out back on shelf and repeat
Oh I sold my 6.4 so I have an extra proguard 7 filter for cheap only used 3-4 times, and it's been cleaned and oiled ready to go!
