Well my truck stranded me again... today with my boat behind it. After stopping to fuel my boat, started the truck to leave and it died after five seconds. It displayed the message "Stop Safely Now". Truck would not restart. Everything would come on, fuel pumps were running, etc... no start.
Called good old dad, towed the boat home and grabbed my tools and code reader. It was throwing codes for DPF Overheat, CAT Overheat, and EGT Sensor fault for Bank 1, Sensor 4. Sensor 4 was showing 2,500 degrees while the others were ~200 degrees live data.
Called a good friend who is a Ford Diesel tech and he told me how to fix it and where sensor #4 was. Pulled the last EGT sensor (after the DPF, CAT, etc) and replaced. $50 part. Truck apparently has to sit for "about 30 minutes" to restart. Important note, that means 30 minutes plus NO KEY CYCLES.
Anyway, so much for a nice day on the water. At least this time I didn't throw a rod. Way to feel good about a 2.5yr old truck...
Yep, Feel your pain. The Ford Place has my truck now. Third time for me. "Stop Safely Now". 1st time was due to EGT Sensor, Second time was 3 of the 4 Sensors coded as high temp, and now they have it again (not sure of what it is now, but probably the same sensor issues). The second time i took it to them (wrecker) they said the oil backed-up through the PCV valve and got into the DPF causing the exhaust to overheat. WHAT? Kidding me, it was due for an oil change when it happened, so why didn't it happen at 6K on the same oil cycle (by the way the oil was not too full, checked it a few times and it was perfect on the dip stick). This is nuts, sorry man feel your pain. Oh, i had to waid one hour before i could crank my truck in the middle of no where at the hunting camp. It let me crank it 5 mins before the tow truck arrived! BAD WEEKEND!
This happened to me on the way back from the ranch in the middle of nowhere just this week. Cost $550 to tow back to the dealer. It is under warranty with a $100 deductible for a $50 part. I will try to get the towing taken care of on warranty. Biggest issue is when will this happen again. Not happy about the reliability of a 2 year old truck with only 70k miles! Dealer told me they only have recalls for safety issues. Ford should take care of this problem! By the way, I was on the side of the road for more than an hour and was not able to restart the truck.
I was almost rear ended by a 18 wheeler when mine shut off. Needless to say I'm extremely pissed. My warranty is up does anyone have a clue how much this may cost me?
I am on my third EGT Sensor as well. The Truck is actually at the dealership now. Dealer only covered the first under warranty. This is on an 2011 with 90K miles. Frustrating... Not a fan of the dealership's attitude. Thinking about buying the extended warranty???
Just happened to me this a.m. at he gas station. Turned truck off went inside to get a cold drink and when I came out and fired it up it ran for 5 seconds and then shut down with "stop safely now" on display.
Luckily my friend is available with scanner and I will see shortly which sensor(s) I will need to replace.
I guess this is a good time as any to order delete kit.:woot:
or to get the latest updated flash from Ford that gets rid of this issue
