Hi, everyone I'm new to this forum and need your help. I have a Ford 2005 power stroke excursion with no mod other than a turboback 4" exhaust and gauges. Recently started hearing a noise which appears to be coming from the engine compartment. It appears to occur after lifting my foot off the accelerator and the truck is coasting. It disappears with giving the truck gas or when the truck is near a complete stop. Its difficult to describe but sounds like a low tone muffled rattle. I have sound clip and you can hear it after the truck engine accelerated, but I am having difficulty uploading the file to the forum. Can anyone help me upload this sound clip. Any information or suggestions regarding this noise would greatly be appreciated.

Welcome to the ORG. It could be so many things. One thing I would think about is your exhaust. There are lots of good people in here that will help you out soon.

Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look under the truck and see. I can only reproduce the sound while driving, unsuccessful with the truck in park. If I can upload the sound clip or email the file it may be more informative then trying to describe the the sound.

The turbo is "laughing" when you release the accelerator by the sounds of what you are describing. In plain English, the VGT can't react fast enough to keep up with the PCM's "command" when you release the accelerator. Ford does have an SSM (Special Service Message) for this. I can't remember the number off the top of my head. As for uploading the sound clip, try uploading it on youtube.com, and then copy and paste the link in your post.

I can't hear anything abnormal. What you're describing seems to fit the description of a turbo fart. Which is normal..but not good if happening in excess. Is your truck cold in the sound clip? Sounds like it. jw. that's all. Welcome to you JDM and m-chan68. m-chan68, contact rodslinger and you can get your own powerstroke.org techie screen name.
