What kind of luck have you guys been having with the factory oil coolers and coolant filters? I just bought this truck 3 weeks ago or so and just put an Edge monitor on it. I was planning on doing a BPD oil cooler when the time came but I wasn’t expecting it to be so soon. Now I’m considering just replacing it with another factory cooler and coolant filter If I can get a few years out of it, If not than a I will drop the change on BPD cooler.

I’m sure results vary but I’m hoping for a general consensus.

Edge CS monitor
Morning ECT 186 EOT 201 looks like I may need a thermostat to.
Afternoon ECT 190-192 EOT 205-207

If you do a complete flush, use a coolant filter and such to a CAT rated elc, well in advance before, you will be fine with the stock oil cooler. Bypass coolant filters should be used about 7k miles before switching oil coolers.

Thanks for the advise, I will order a coolant filter this week.

Sorry if its a dumb question but this "ELC" coolant, can it be found at normal auto parts stores. Orielly's , autozone, Napa ect...?

After doing some searches on this site, it looks like you can plan on the oil cooler geting clogged after a chem flush. I will order all parts before the flush.

Were is the best/cheapest place to buy a new OEM cooler?

I think it reeley comes down to what you are looking to get out of the truck. If you are gonna run it for a few years and trade it in that Id say yes the oem style cooler would be fine.
But for someone like myself that is planning for around 10+ years of working the truck then Id say save yourself the time and headace and go with BPD. Ya it cost more now but this is a one time and forget about type of thing. I know it will pay me back.

Have you read this? http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/ge...oolant-filter-elc-coolant-full-flush-etc.html When I go to switch to elc and change oil cooler I am planning on doing it how Warchild suggested. I will do a coolant flush with restore and restore+ then switch to elc and run that for about a month(at least 500 miles or as long as I can without rupturing my oil cooler or EGR cooler) and then switch my oil cooler.

EBay has good prices on coolers. Just make sure the listing is for OEM.

I use Zerex coolant found at Napa...
