Can I bleed my brakes without a dealership scan tool?

Hey al

Truck is a 1996 F350 SRW, i've been doing some research on bleeding ABS brakes since today. I read that in order to bleed ABS, RABS, it has to be done at a dealership to open the valves? I was gonna do a full rear brake job, cylinders, spring kit etc. I don't know anymore since I'm not sure if I can bleed the brakes without a scan tool?

Never even heard of this till today. Last truck was an 04 F150 but always had work done on it at a friends shop for dirt cheap. And previously had a 86 Toyota 4x4 crawler that didn't have ABS so always bled them myself.

Honestly if I had a 2009 gt500 it would stay in the garage except sunny days, and the dealer would be only one to touch it

For a 60k car I won't do squat to void a warranty lol

New brakes going to slotted rotors, ss lines, dot 4 fluid with invo 255/30s in front and nt05 305/30's out back.

And yeah she needs to get out. Since i bought the truck ive only put 1300 miles on her :banghead:

Anyway not to hijack

Has anyone else heard of this issue with needing a scantool?

Never heard of it, but I've done the fronts only when I did my axle swap (twice ) and is going from dot 3 to dot 4 an upgrade? I know dot 5 is what my dad has on his motorcycle

yes certain vechicles need a scan tool to cycle the abs pump. the OBS fords are not one of them. the super duties are not either. lots of newer GM products are
