Truck is a 1996 F350 SRW, i've been doing some research on bleeding ABS brakes since today. I read that in order to bleed ABS, RABS, it has to be done at a dealership to open the valves? I was gonna do a full rear brake job, cylinders, spring kit etc. I don't know anymore since I'm not sure if I can bleed the brakes without a scan tool?
Never even heard of this till today. Last truck was an 04 F150 but always had work done on it at a friends shop for dirt cheap. And previously had a 86 Toyota 4x4 crawler that didn't have ABS so always bled them myself.
u can bleed them in your drive way , what does a scan tool do? i bled the brakes on my 89 in the streets..went back in forth between the brakes and the proportioning valve
Man thia is the 1st ive heard of this. I work on several cars with ABS. Hell in my garage alone in the last year has been my 2009 gt500 wife's '13 optima her 04 H2 her sisters Nissan altima. All with ABS. Never touched a scan tool.
I've heard of it with some more sophisticated 4-wheel ABS. Everything I've read about our simple ABS, you just go by the usual doctrine of reverse order of distance from the master cylinder - RR, LR, then the ABS valve, then RF, then LF.
After i got into a 4 week battle over a warranty covered tsb the dealer and the warranty can suck it. Long story longer i had to go all the way to a corporate level engineer. I don't trust anyone touching my toys....maybe y she looks like this right now lol
Never heard of it, but I've done the fronts only when I did my axle swap (twice :doh and is going from dot 3 to dot 4 an upgrade? I know dot 5 is what my dad has on his motorcycle
yes certain vechicles need a scan tool to cycle the abs pump. the OBS fords are not one of them. the super duties are not either. lots of newer GM products are
DOT 4 also absorbs moisture faster than DOT 3, we use DOT 3 in our dirt modified race cars with no problems.
