Looking at purchasing an Early 1999 Ford F-350 4 door long bed.

It has 146,000 miles. Little dirty in pictures but owner says has straight body with normal paint. XLT model with tan interior.

Has a 6 position chip and a hyperpac monitor that im guessing he used for gauges... Hopefully! Spare working 4r100 w/TQ in box. Brand new front end. New batteries, glow plugs, and relay. 2.5 inch leveling kit with air bags in rear.

Seems like a super good deal to me? IF, everything checks out. WHat do you guys think? worth the 500 mile drive to just look?

With it being as dirty as it is, that throws a little red flag for me. It looks like he takes it muddin so you have to weigh in the validity of his maintenance since he just let a good rain pour on it to wash the mud off and didnt take the time to even make it look decent for the sale photos. Trucks that see abuse like that without proper maintenance could need everything from a new front end to new bearings to new differentials (everything could be packed with mud/water).

I like that he has the long bed, 4 door and I see airbags. I dont like how the bed looks beat up in the bottom photo if he's advertising "the body is straight." I have to ask myself if he's throwing that line in there, what else do we not see that is either covered by the mud or not in focus in the photos? Id ask for more photos, specific shots of the under carriage (look a lot for rust under wheel wells and doors), proof of the recent work and more info on the spare 4r100. The spare could just be a core that's blown.

If this was me, I'd probably pass unless he brought the price down. Mileage is one thing on a vehicle but this trucks miles look hard based on just what we are seeing. Then again, maybe theyre not and he has a legit story. Definitely inquire more before making such a drive.

Thank-you for your input!

I live in Alaska. Undercarriage rust is normal after a year or two. He said he has a detailed maintenance record. That is not "mud" in the photos, its just raining and he prolly lives down a dirt road. Transmission, I guess I will just have to trust him. but still only asking $9400

I lived down a long dirt road for years and my truck NEVER looked like that unless it went for some extra curricular activities

Having been burned by folks in the past, I hope there are a better quality of people in Alaska than here in the lower 48 and that it really is a good deal :thumb:

I still disagree about the mud part. I take extremely good care of my vehicles and they have looked similar to that after a long drive in the rain. and being in alaska, is different than any other state, We have the worst road conditions ever! haha. Although he does have large mudflaps that do worry me... Atleast he cares enough to have them though!

I do agree about the bed, Didn't even notice that till you said something. I can live with a few dings and dents I suppose. He seems like he knows his diesel stuff though, he has a six position, and not a "boxed tuner" (except for gauges)

I think it can be a good buy. Price does need to come down some more for what I see in the pics. I don't think its a shadow but the pic of the rear tires you can see the yoke of the rear end is wet with oil. Seal is prolly going bad. Also notice one side of the truck has the powerstroke badges on the door and fender, other side only has fender badge. I would request more pics and more closeups too. I think if you can get him down another $1k it would be a better deal.

Good call! These trucks are just extremely rare to find in alaska with low milage and the options I want. And this one is it! I suppose maybe I've gotten my hopes up too much

My dad is a truck driver and goes to Fairbanks often where the truck is located, Hopefully the owner can get some time off and my dad can tell me if its worth coming up for.

Looks like a good clean truck to me. I think thats a shadow, not a dent. Its not shown in the pic above.
It just needs a washing. I would definitely ask him to send pics of it clean though. Maybe the engine compartment too. Better pics would be a must for me before I made the trip.
I do not think the price is too far off
