Just wondering what everybody else out there was getting for gas mileage?? I have got an 05 F250 6.0 diesel, 8 inch lift withh 38" tires. Air intake, full RBP exhaust, SCT Livewire with custom tunes from DJ's (always on tow tune). And I can't seem to get any better than about 10 mpg... So now it that diesel is getting up over $4.08 a gallon, it takes me $100 to fill up, and I get about 250 miles per tank. Ya I think you know where I am going with this. So what is everybody else getting? and what can I do to get BETTER mileage??? Please help...
Well I would NEVER take the lift and tires off, so that is not an option I guess... I know its about 10 mpg because when I fill up the tank (25 gallons) I get 250 miles before its empty... hmmmmmm
You could re gear it yourself. Ive helped do it in a jeep. It you know someone with some tools and a press and You Follow the directions Labor would be free. Its tricky if you have never seen it done. I helped do it once and I think I would tackle the job with an extra hand no problem. I know was a small jeep but the basics of the job stay the same I would imagine.
With 35's I'm getting 15.6 around Tampa. and my meter is dead accurate. I couldn't imagine going bigger than 35's in terms of MPG's. I think a factory 275/60/20 to a 35x12.50 is a good range of tire for practicalness.
I am in the same boat, 8" Fab-Tech with 37" Toyo's. SCT tuned to "Street" everything else stock. And am getting about 10 mpg. And yes, I did recal the Speedo using the SCT.
you get what you get. It sucks in the end at $4.19/gal. I'm on the verge of almost wishing I went with 285 BFG AT's instead of my monster 35x12.50's. for sake of saving fuel. I guess if you can afford a $50k truck, plus $20k of upgrades, $20/wk doesn't matter. But to me it does.
I really want to import a Toyota HILUX TDI crew cab 4x4 from Europe. BUt that would only bennefit me and the environment, the EPA doesn't want that. They rather have me drive a F250 or a Hybrid with 500 LBS of Lead and Acid and maybe mercury. I still think the E stands for Equity.
Bigger tires cover more distance as they rotate, therefore you're both going farther than 250 miles per tank and getting more than 11mpg. And going faster than the speedo says while you're doing it...
thankyou streak...that is why i asked how he knew it was 10mpg....you may think its 10 mpg but your truck does not automatically recal the speedo when you pop bigger tires on.....also someone said 35 did not change their speedo...i have a gps and with my bigger tires my truck reads 5mph off
I definately noticed an increase in my milage ever since the weather warmed up here. I've seen an increase from 14.8mpg to 16.4mpg recently. I do a lot of highway (about 100 miles a day) and keep her clocked between 65-70 mph. It equates to about 400 miles per tank @ $4.17 per gal. which costs me around $.28 a mile or $112 to fill. I'd love to find some tunes that can increase my mileage even more. Oh, and im stock height and tires on a '06 350 cc 4x4.
Thanks streak, I guess I didn't even think about that... I do know that my speedo is about 10 mph slower than my real speed... I wonder how much I am actually getting per tank/per mile then?? hmmmmm Ok so then how do i recalibrate the speedo???
You have to go with something along the lines of truspeed or superchips tirepaq. I am running 37's and my odometer (tripmeter) is short to right at 10% of true miles. In your case showing 250 miles it would actually be in the neighborhood of a true 275 miles- you just gained a mile per gallon on a 25 gallon fillup. Check with Raul@stealth he carries the tirepaq and it functions as alot more than just a speedo recalibrator for about the same price as truspeed
