sending unit or?

I pulled out today and floored it next thing I know my gas hand is reading full tank when before that I was on a quarter..stopped at the store and when I cranked it back up my hand was on half a tank.....is this the sending unit? How heavy is the gas tank?>???

It is the gauge sending unit in the tank. How heavy is the tank well that depends on how much fuel you have in it. I would wait till you get down to about a 1/4 or 1/8 of a tank then drop the tank down.

it aint to bad to drop the tank is it ? just unbolt the straps and fill neck?? how hard is it to replace the unit?

mine was acting up and someone told me that if u add some techron based diesel cleaner it will help clean the sending unit and may solve ur problem..i added some diesel kleen when mine was acting up and it helped so far...worth a try anyways

It takes about 30 minutes at the most to drop the tank and open it up. Be advised though the dealer wants around 300 dollars for a new sending unit. I found one at the local junkyard I got the whole tank for 150. I just used the pick up tube assembly from that tank on my tank.

I used the electric fuel pump to pump the last of it out through the filter drain after I drove it to as near empty as I dared by jumping power to it or cycling the key. The tank probably weight less than 30 pounds. It will cost you around $35 to do the intank and prepump filter mods and I highly recommend doing it, well worth the effort in my opinion. Take a look at the pics I took when I did it to mine.
