I'm new to the forum. I have a 07 f250 6.0l and wanting to install a cat back system. My question is, will the loss of backpressure in exhaust effect the turbo function. Am I understanding the engine needs some backpressure for the sensors to work right to control the turbo.
I have another question about the flutter when you let off the gas. I noticed it at 900 miles. It seems to do it when I'm cruising about 60mph and let off. Kinda sounds like a exhaust brake, but can tell it is something to do with the turbo. Is this normal or does the dealer need to fix something? Will installing a cat back system help this flutter problem?
i wont get technical unfortunately (others might help with that) however you should be fine with cat back only. some on the forum will tell you they have had problems with no muffler and others like myself have had no problem with no muffler. imo they do need some backpressure.
the sound your hearing is normal. search threads for that and you will find an explanation.
by the way, welcome!
What's back pressure?
Just kidding! Welcome to Powerstroke.org!
My '05 is straight piped so those who tell everyone the 6.0 needs back pressure need to explain to me why mine doesn't need back pressure and runs like a raped ape.
Alan...call Mythbuster on this one. Maybe you can get your truck on the Discovery Channel! Then again they usually blow things up by the end of the show!
Let me put a differant light on this. The exhaust systems we sell for the 6.0l 9 out of 10 times is a turbo back system with a cat delete and muffler delete. Have never once had a customer call me with a problem. Is it luck? Maybe, but thats alot of luck!
Thanks Scott!
Yeah I ought to Pat - I love that show. Especially when they beat the crap out of that crash dummy.
There are a lot of us on here who are straight piped 6.0's with no problems and flat out loving it. I really don't think I've ever heard of someone who was straight piped and had to go back because they had problems.
its illegal when its emmisions testing time, if you have that problem, thats why alot of guys keep there cat so they can pop it back in once a year for the test
So How Do You Find Out If You Have To Get Your Truck Checked Or Not? I Have Had Mine Since The Spring Of 2004 And I Haven't Gotten Any Notices About Having It Echecked (in Ohio)? If I Went With The Stacks And Went Straight Piped Could I Add My Caddy Back In If Needed Or Should I Just Go With The Caddy For The Stacks?
i really dont know how you tell if you get checked or not, ive never heard about it in my area so i just gutted mine, im sure they make a stack system that you can keep the cat or use a delete pipe that way if the cat was ever needed -------30min job and its back in
I CAN'T WAIT TO GET HOME AND LISTEN TO YOUR TRUCK! I DO NOT HAVE SPEAKERS ON THIS COMPUTER AT WORK AND AM NOT ALLOWED ANY!:stupidcomputer: I WILL HAVE TO ASK AROUND SOME AND SEE IF WE HAVE TO GET THE DIESELS CHECKED HERE IN OHIO
I really do have to say, when you straight pipe your truck, you get exactly what you pay for. I got a compliment from a friend the other day, that said my truck sounded like an A-10 taking off . It really does sound like a jet engine, and I'm happy w/ that.
If the state you live is has yearly vehicle inspection laws, you would know it or you would have been ticketed for not having a current inspection sticker. In Oklahoma, they did away with these inspection laws about 4 years ago. Not sure why cause it generated money for the state but not much. 5 bucks a year and you had to take you vehicle to an authorized inspection station where they checked al your emissions, wipers, lights, turn signals horn....etc. to m ake sure your car was operating in a safe manner and everything worked. They did check to see that you had a cat on. If you failed the inspection, you still payed 5 bucks but got no sticker untill you fixed whatever it was that failed you. Then if you got pulled over for out of date inspection, it was about a 30.00 ticket.
It was a pain in the butt and I'm glad they did away with it, however, now theres alot of cars running around Oklahoma doing 80 mph down the road and maybe no tread left on there tires or some other unsafe issue that they won't get taken care of untill it causes a problem.
