Good day. I've been reading older posts regarding the K & N air intake filter and now I'm concerned about the quality of the filter. I've read about dusting issues and swapping the filter out. My truck had the K & N filter mod done to it by the previous owner and I thought it was a good thing until I started reading about other users opinions. I think I'm convinced now to swap out the filter for a replaceable element like the napa 6637 or the fram equivalent. I don't have the stock air intake pipe any longer so I'm wondering if these other filters will direct fit on my existing K & N intake pipe or if I have to do some more work. I'd appreciate any feedback.
My truck is a 1996 F350 Crewcab 4x4 7.3L PSD DRW.
Also, If you have everything stock from the Crankcase Breather Adapter back to the Turbo, you could just get a Tymar setup (Cary at CT Performance sells them) since it has a new hose from the breather adapter to the exhaust elbow that attaches to the filter. Plug-N-Play! Cheers!
One other question that came to mind. Once the 6637 filter is installed, what do I need to do to keep it dry? I'm nervous that rain or other moisture will get on the paper filter rendering it basically useless. The stock one is encased in a plastic waterproof box and the K & N is covered in oil from the recharge kit. Any thoughts?
If you get the Donaldson filter, it is water-resistant. Folks from snow country and Washington/Oregon area have not had problems with water. I did not have any issues on my 94's setup (and we get snow here too). Cheers!
Just get a Tymar intake, comes with everything needed to do it correctly. PM me if I can help.
