I have a 2000 F-240 4x4, and am running a bully dog 6 position chip (performance setting) a cold air intake, and stock exhaust system with a muffler delete. I'm looking to put a new exhaust system on it and love the look of the 5" system and figured the truck would breathe better with it, but was told my truck might not be putting out enough horses to run that 5" system. Please help, I'll take any advice! Thanks.

The stock exhaust is usually plenty. I believe its 3.5in stock. Most just run a 4in which is more than enough for most.
The only thing you will get from a 5in is looks and a different tone. Choice is up to you though, it will not hurt a diesel to have too big of an exhaust as it would a gasser

4 inch or 5 inch is fine.

only difference between 4 inch and 5 inch is tone. 5 inch is a little deeper sounding.

horsepower doesn't matter since your truck is turbocharged.

I belive largest down pipe you can get is a 4in

A 5" system will have a 4" down pipe, usually till right under the cab, or in the down pipe itself it will expand. I have had both and the 5" sounds better, but doesn't fit around the rear shock and spare as well.
