Update on new rig

I've had the new rig a couple of weeks now. It's not my daily driver, so I don't drive it as much as I would like. I was going to change all fluids myself as suggested here. My wife talked me into taking it to the shop the first time since I'm still new to diesels and would like to catch an issue before it becomes a problem. I was told the mechanics of the engine are all seem fine. They did a trans fluid and filter, and both diffs. He said the transfercase and coolant were both fine and did not change them. Someone told me to check some level in the coolant with a test strip. What are they talking about? Should I change the fluids or accept his word? The truck has a limited slip diff. I did not see on the invoice any additive listed. I could call and ask if he added it, but would it hurt if I added some myself just to be sure? On the invoice he also did not include the two bottles of fuel additive he gave me. So maybe just an oversight? The last thing was a couple of loose bolts on the drivers side exhaust manifold. They tightend them up but said the manifold still leaks a little. I was told if I wanted to get rid of the sound completly I would need to have he manifold resurfaced. The leak is hard to hear, and even harder once the truck warms up. Is this a common problem? The shop told me sees this a couple of times a month. Almost forgot, he told me since I'm unsure of the complete maint of the truck I should add half the bottle of additive to my next tank, run one tank without, then add the balance of additive. What do you all think?

Thanks for the reply. I'll purchase some strips and check the level of cooling additive. I did check the fluid with the squeeze ball thing mabob. It showed the fluid was good to -54. Loving the turbo sound and will post pictures when I figure out how.
