Ok I have a friend ... that is alot of talk. A few actually, but here's the stats, tell me what you guys think.
Four kids want a race. (chebby's and one pontiac)
Now I always mention f*** racing let's hook 'em up. BUT...
One guy, has a 90-something Chevy S10 2WD with 2" flowmasters, and lowered racing suspension. This s10 has a "built" 350. (By built I believe he means he put it together) Auto trans.
Another has an early 90's 1500 Silverado with a 350 out of a 2004 Silverado, 4x4 Automatic.
Another has a 94 Pontiac w/ a 3.1 out of a 95.
And the last one (worst) Has a 98 S10 "Xtreme" ... that he riced out
He's got the "Xtreme gears" (faster gearing supposedly), fart-can muffler exhaust w/ no cat. Lowered 5", with gay lights and junk thumpers.
None of em know what kinda ponies they are puttin down but all 4 of these guys want a race... I have a 2000 F350 ExCab 7.3 longbed dually 2wd Auto. I don't know what all is done to this truck except a cold air intake, and a 4" turboback exhaust, but I know it can hit 15psi boost and run a (unboosted launch) 9 second 0-60
How would I stack up against these silly lil gassers? I am mostly concerned about the two 350's. What do y'all think?
wow from a boosted launch 4wd i can get 0-60 in about 6 seconds, that with ts 6 pos, afe stage 2, stock pipe with no muffler, boost annihilator and 33" bfg's
And it's a dually, I'm thinking it's not stock. Because it seems awful quick to me... I'll get a vid up sometime and show ya. But yes it max's at 15psi when empty ... then again ... I didn't hook up the gauge...maybe it's off?
Maybe I'm wrong, again I was counting in my head/out loud. And injectors and all that is a load of money I do not have. I know I'd be killed by all of 'em because I weigh 2-4 times as much, that's why none of 'em were my idea! Lol. But where and how would I check for leaks?
a 350 in a nothing chassis like an s 10 is basically a motor on wheels. Depending upon the gearing these babies are likely to disapear in front of you like an F15 racing a cessna. If you have the proper gearing and a solid truck with mods you could possibly slap them bowties butts. Go for it, just for fun
Oh and a couple more things to mention, I don't have any way of knowing if that gauge is even accurate. AND that s10 w/ the 350 does feel like a rocket, but his speedo don't work so he thinks it'd be close. He may be one of the shinier ones... but he aint the sharpest tool in the shed :hehe:
IN THE 1/4 MILE THEY WILL ALL PROBABLY BEAT YOU. SO DONT RACE. IF YOU DO RACE MAKE SURE ITS A 1/8 MILE OR LESS. TO GIVE YOURSELF ANY CHANCE MAKE SURE YOU POWER BRAKE AND TAKE THE TRUCK UP TO ABOUT 1200 RPM AND THEN LAUNCH IT JUST AS BOOST IS BUILDING. THIS MAY BE YOUR ONLY CHANCE TO AVOID GIVING THE POWERSTROKE A BAD NAME. PRACTICE THE LAUNCH FIND OUT HOW MANY RPM,S YOU CAN REACH BEFORE LETTING OFF THE BRAKE AND SPINNING THE TIRES. IM GUESSING SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 1200 AND 1600 RPM, ONCE YOU DO FIND THE LAUNCH POINT LET OFF THE BRAKE AND STOMP HER TO THE FLOOR, REMEMBER WE DONT EVEN LIKE HEARING STORIES ABOUT POWERSTROKES GETTING BEAT BY ANYTHING
Nah I'm not gonna race 'em. They dog on Ford enough lol. They're dumb kids. They will swear all day if that truck got stuck in the mud it's because it's a Ford and not having a THING to do with the fact it's 2WD! I just wondered how terribly matched we would be. And boosted launches are fun at stoplights :wink[3]: Puts spoiled b**chez in their fancy Trailblazers in their place. :thumb:
Heh. I'll be checking into it once I get ahold of that dealership. It was their company truck and I believe they did all the modifications. Or I'll check some stuff myself when I get it back (like the PCM) and inspect that turbo more carefully. And maybe find a way to test that gauge or something... it's gotta be something... for all I know it could have injectors, a turbo, a programmer, studs, and a tranny in it. :dunno::dunno::dunno:
When I get it back from the body work I'm doin to it, I'll get my buddy with his video camera and we'll find a no-po-po-zone. I just gotta figure this out.
id race them! their full of chit. for one the guy that has a 2004 350 in his truck is lieing because by 98 or 99 chevy did away with the 350 and went with the 327. the other guy that has a "built" 350? that means its a stock 350 with an aftermarket cam and 4 barrol and wont be able to get enough traction to be fast, the guy with faster gears still has a slow azz s10 and the guy in the pontiac dont have a chance unless its a grand prix gtp with the factory super charger. (13 seconds stock)
id whup em and then make fun em em that your old 2wd dualie smoked their stupid chebbies.
the boost problem try disconecting the red line on your waste gate and see how much boost your getting then. :thumb:

The 5.7 is still in production. My brother-in-law has one in a '03 1500, there's one in an '04 at work as well.
Unfortunately a 350 powered s10, even if has just an r.v. cam you're looking at 250-300hp in a 3000lbs. truck. He could spin his tires off the line for 3 secs and still walk past an 8000lbs. truck that only has 250ish horsies...
Since you have a boost gauge, I say disconnect the line from your wastegate. Even when mine was stock it gained me about 10 psi and now with all the other items done it runs cooler egt's, better gas mileage and more/faster boost. Just make sure to keep an eye on it. Stock tune shouldn't let it get that high, but don't go much over 28-30psi on the factory turbo. Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you.

IMO that extreme will woop your A$$,,, you may think its a fart can and what not but it aint no honda. id get YOUR truck right and some performance parts first
I'm sure it's quick, it's a lil four-banger. By fart can I mean he literally hacked off everything from the CAT back and clamped on a "fartcan/coffecan" muffler upside down... with NO hangers... and it dumps off directly in the middle of the truck, not out the side, not out the back, right where the cat should be. And then he lowered it  Now it bangs around everywhere. He also "fabricated" a "cold air intake" and by that I mean he took off the airbox and clamped a lil K&N on the end of the intake tube.
When I take the red line off (it's a vacuum line correct?) I stick it under one of the boots to pinch it off? That right?
But isn't doing that dangerous? Like when I let off quickly after it's spooled and hear it flutter/whistle out the pipe isn't that the wastegate working? Will it still do it's job of saving the intake manifold if that red line is off?
No, the wastegate works off of drive pressure (The pressure in the exhaust before the turbo.) It requires a closer eye on your gauges, but in essence does the same thing as a Banks bighead wastegate controller and BD makes a similar product. Their's has a stiffer spring in it to hold the wastegate closed longer. I just disconnected the red line and put it on the bolt in the intake clamp (To plug it) and put a rubber cap over the wastegate (Just to keep any mud or sand out) Do a search for it....There has been quite a few discussions. Here is one....
I asked some questions on here and read some other threads and tried it out....I was absolutely amazed. With my chip and it disconnected I can pretty easily get over the 25psi that the motor defuels at to bring the boost down, I haven't put in the fix for this yet since I kind of count it as an extra safety factor if I miss the gauge. I have been running mine like this for a year now and I get less smoke, lower EGT's, more MPG and more power (or at least it seems like it to me). Mine will not be getting hooked back up anytime soon.
i think u have a chance, my dads other truck is a 96 7.3 stock except no cat and k&n air filter i have beat a 05 6.0 and a chevy 06 6.6, and my buddies prelude that is turbo charged, and my old truck (360ci dodge with edelbroke 750 carb, port and polished, rv cam, 3" flows and edelbroke intake) and still some how ,my dads truch would school me
a turbo charged prelude?! That thing would run around 13s maybe low 14's, i doubt a stock 96 7.3 would run even close to that my 2 cents. Im with thh other guys wait to you get the truck right and a chip before you race them especialy the s-10 witht the 350 .. my buddy had a s-10 blazer with a 350 with some work done and a shift kit and that was in the low 13's so let them talk all the $hit they want and youll get the last laugh
