Yesterday, I installed my Banks TransCommand, but couldn't take it out for a test spin due to pulling out my drvr's side ext. manifold for a thermocouple mod for the Six-Gun tuner. So today, I reinstalled the manifold, and started putting the heat shield I had to remove prior to getting to the trans. plug. I started from the rear and worked my way up to the front near the trans. Now, I don't want to make this a novel, but for any of you who've installed the TransCommand know that the manual says to mount it @ the end of the stringer outside the passenger framerail. The end of the the stringer so happens to be in close proximity to the front studs/nuts for any of you who have the '99.5-newer PSDs w/ the heat shield. So close in fact, it was a no-brainer the studs will touch the unit DEFINITELY! Relocating the unit on the stringer is also out of the question. #1: This would lessen the amount of slack you have in the wires coming out of the unit. You MUST route the wires exactly as they have it on the diagrams, otherwise the only other routing option you have, given the length of wires that come from the unit, would mean being dangerously close to the exhaust pipe. Also, there's a ground strap bolted almost to the middle of the stringer, so once you relocate the unit, you'll undoubtedly have to relocate the ground strap. My remedy was to just remove the unit, and turn it around(label facing framerail). This will give you more than enough clearance for the heat shield studs. I know relocating the unit, then relocating the ground strap, or just unbolting the unit from it's own mounting bracket and turning it around would've been just as simple, but why have to do the extra work? You want this baby installed so you can use it, not being stuck under your rig for the better half of the day:boldblue:! One other thing I had a problem with is a diagram from the Banks manual for a wiring harness you put 3 wires extracted from the main trans. harness. It was completely backwards. The wires you'd extract from the main harness are: 1, 11, & 12. The diagram shows the harness with the clip end up and the 3 of 4 ports you'd use to install these wires. It shows #1 goes to port 4, #11 goes to port 2, and #12 goes to port 1. After starting the truck and finding the OVERDRIVE light flashing, I checked everything. After I looked @ the back of the Banks plug, I noticed the #1 wire was opposite of the corresponding Banks wire. I switched it, fired up, and still had the OD flashing. So then I figured since both #1 were red with a yellow strip, I might've gotten it backwards. So I switched, fired, OD flash---WTF!?!?!?!? Now I'm thinking: It HAS to be backward... So I: SWCH, FRD, NO OD FLASH:clap:!!! Sorry I wrote too much crap, but this install almost got the best of me today. Just check your mods, locations, connections, proximities, hardware, etc. Hope I was a help!
