Hey everyone I just bought my 6.4 a week ago and finally sold the 07 Dodge. Im looking at a Magnaflow exhaust but dont want to drop $450 if its gonna do the same as taking the muffler out. Has anyone just removed the muffler at the very rear of the truck and left the DPF and CAT in the truck. I dont want to jack my warranty but the dealer told me the muffler wouldnt be that big of a deal. I just want something with more of a tone to it.

So having the muffler removed didn't make it any louder at all?

Well crap.. I was hoping that if I removed the muffler I might get a little bit of sound out of it. I love the truck but there is just no sound, tone or anything. All you hear is air coming out of the exhaust.

I would like it louder with a pretty deep tone but if Im not gonna be able to accomplish that without removing the DPF and CAT then im not even going to bother.

With the cat gutted and the dpf still intack isn't your CEL staying on. This sounds like the way i might go.

Has anyone checked there regen temps before and after installing an exhaust system, I'm more interested in reducing the temp of the exhaust, I have little kids and don't want them walking by the exhaust durring a regen and getting burnt. Every time I pull into a campground or rest area, when towing my trailer my truck goes into regen.

Thanks

I wish there was a way to get more of a tone without having to screw with the dpf or cat.

Get a cat delete pipe and swap it out as needed for inspections etc. you`ll get plenty of sound

How can you do that,is it flanged? Will that keep the CEL from comming on? Also don't you have the backpressure from the cat with dpf still on.

sorry for all the questions, but i just don't know that much about this 6.4:confused:

Check Crazy03`s post above. He tells what you get with a gutted cat. Better yet call Gus at Farm boy diesel, fbd. If he doesn`t have it he will put you on the right track as well as answering all questions you might have. Yes it is flanged.

just installed the magnaflow 4" dual exhaust on my 08 f350 today. part number 17988. it is the pro version with muffler delete. it is great quality, easy to install. i ordered it from xtreme diesel friday and it arrived today (monday)!! i was really excited to get it on, since the 6.4 is pretty quiet.

i have to say that after installing it i was very disappointed with the sound improvement. (not magnaflows fault) ford has choked this exhaust so much with the cats and dpf that removing the muffler basically does nothing for the sound. it is 99% the same sound. on my old 7.3, removing the muffler seemed that it doubled the sound. i am sure that i am gaining power, and probably lowering the egts, but sound improvement is practically zero.

obviously the sound is being greatly muffled by the dpf. for real sound quality, the dpf delete and muffler delete is the way to go. like everyone else on this site i am waiting on spartan for the tuner/delete pipe package. but if you are wanting more sound, deleting the muffler is not going to do it.

You are right on. If you have a later model you have a big decision to make if you want sound. Warranty being the most important I expect.
