PMR's? Thats powdered rods, right? I believe I have the same, so that means we can't really go for big power without a rebuild, right? What years did powdered vs. forged?
as a general rule of thumb....any truck through 2000 had them...but there has been the very rare occasion that a 2001 had them from the factory....it usually was from one particular plant and was usually an early 2001 build date.......but its not common...
Well, injectors are out. 4 hours from start to finish.
Edit: I let the oil rails drain for a total of 1 hour because after sitting around doing nothing for 20 min I was like, ummmm I need to see if I have PMR's. So I took a 3/8ths drive... ground it down about 4 times to make it fit the 5/16th's plug. Then I couldn't see JACK so I took the transmission inspection cover off (start bolt sucks by the way) and turned the motor over a few times by the flywheel and kept checking. Finally I could see. I kept saying "bolt is bad" I couldn't stop saying it... I started crying... I was sobbing... i said F.... LOL J'k
then I called the injector place and DP tuner and left messages about my misfortunes lmao. So actual work time for the injectors was 3 hours. Actually, I stopped and ate some pizza. :dunno: LOL IDK it wasn't that bad... I was FEARING the worst.
Anyway - YOU MUST USE A 1/8" Allen head socket on the oil deflector - you CAN NOT use the regular L shaped ones. Oh yeah, that's right... I also ran into town to get that socket...
Final answer, 2 hours 20 minutes of ACTUAL work to get all 8 injectors out lmao... ok guys... I'm loading up pix now.
Why not? When I had to replace my # 6 injector, we used the regular L shaped ones. Is there a reason? Should I pop off the valve cover and check it again with a socket allen?
Shane, the injectors were a breeze actually. The hardest part was getting the UVC harness unplugged without breaking the tab  If you want, I can do them for you no problem Of course... I still have to install them but I've gotten the tq measurements and the bolts are easy... I've got maybe 40 nuts/bolts/studs and a 8 oil deflectors in a bucket... cake man.
I just had no idea what to do and Marc talked me through most of it and it was cake. It took me 30 minutes after I unplugged the UVC harness, g/p's, and took the gasket off and let the oil rails drain to unbolt the injectors and pop them out.
Only way to know if you have forged rods or not is to check. I had a truck build date of 01/01 and a motor build date of around 11/00. The cut off is 10/00.
congrats on the injectors man and sorry to hear about the PMRs you must have recently hit the lotto new turbo, new injectors, & new DP tuner all in the past like 2 months or so anyways congrats man hope to see that thing run now at SSS 08
Nice work Marty!! Sorry I couldnt come down and help. Worked 10 hrs Sat., 6 hrs Sun., & 12 hrs yesterday on the set. And after I get my Mom settled I am heading back!
Anyways, congrats on the new toys!! Trying to catch Nate!! :lol2:
Actually, with the setup I have now I could run a 13 flat on fuel alone. Only problem is the rods wouldn't stay in the block very long, the heads would want to lift, not to mention the tranny would throw up lol.
Got to ask... Why did you pull the oil spouts off? Have pulled 4-5 sets of injectors and never removed the oil spouts?
Second, Dont worry about the hybrids and PMR's, have Jody burn you a 400hp max tune and run the piss out of it... Then save a bit of money and get the short block from DI, $3500 for a complete shortblock, with Forged rods mellin oil pump, all the gaskets and such. You can pull yours and swap everything over and be back up and running in a weekend.
I've been finding forged rods motors from turbo to pan for around 1200 bucks with at or less then 100000 miles. I could buy that, stud it, do some valve work and swap my injectors/turbo into it and be set I think...

i told him to pull the oil deflectors.....ive seen people (myself included) have a prybar slip when pulling the injectors and break them....it only takes a few mins to remove them and prevent that for sure...
As for the Chip already have the tuning from Jody when I got my DP Tuner a couple weeks back I had him do 2 tunes for the stock injectors and 6 Tunes for the Single Shot Stage II's so I'm ready to go just waiting on next weekend to install. I went with the Gauge Switch and it is great.
A buddy of mine has the Stage II's and is selling them to me for only $500 bucks and helping me do the install they only have 5,000 miles on them he went to Stage III's I would have also but for 500 bucks can't pass it up. I can always upgrade later and sell the II's and probably get close to my money back.
That's cool! Do you still have the AE? There is a program bundled with AE called SpeedTracer that is basically a performance calculator. It does 1/8, 1/4 and 0-60 times. Give her a whirl and see what you got!
what are you gonna do about oil and fuel volume , just curious , with those stage 3's , looks like the injectors would be starving
