Hello, I have a 2000 F-250 and I've had it just over 2 months I've put 10K miles on it none pulling and I don't know the history of it before I bought it. I did a vin check and nothing came up. The truck now has 158K on it. This problem happens reguardless of temp or outside conditions. When the truck is either parked on level ground or on an up hill slant it will start for like 4 or 5 seconds then die and it takes like 8 seconds of cranking to start back up and it runs fine. If I park it on a down hill slope it never dies it keeps running. It never gives white smoke only a little puff of black when I get on it hard. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.
Oops I forgot to say that it has an airaid intake. The only thing that makes me think it's not the batteries or fuel filter is that it's different when it's going down hill oh and I also forgot to say that yesterday I parked it on level ground and it had been there for a whole day and it started and died and wouldn't start again. I also forgot some other stuff in the original post. It don't do it all the time it only stalls if it's been sitting for like 8 or more hours. But if I just go in the store and back out it's fine. It's just like overnight or all day it will stall after start up. Thank you for the quick response.
next time you know it would do it, check the HP resevour. It is the box dead center on the top front of the motor....long thin aluminum thing right up top. take the little motor cover off, and there will be a plug on the drivers side of that resevour. Take the plug out and check the oil level in there. It should be 1 inch or less from the top....im betting your resevour is draining down on an incline...
Marc---- Thank you very much. And if that is the reason where do I start? Is there a seal some where or is it all gaskets and how hard will they be to get to. That is what I was thinking the problem is. I'll check it this weekend. thank you again.
AZ2001F-350---- I'm up in Kingman. Are there a lot of guys on here from AZ?
your best bet from here is getting to a guy that knows about these motors. The check ball for the HP oil isnt an easy fix or diag......unless your pretty mechanically inclined, this is a fix for the pro's...
I am mechanically inclined I'm asuming it is like a transmission valve bodie but I've never seen a breakdown of the hpop or engine itself. Where is the best place to get a manual or diagram of the pump. I know how to do almost anything with a gas engine and can do most things with my eyes closed but I'm new do the Diesel engines and want to learn as much as I can because I trust my work more than any one that is around here. Any recomendations of either links or places to buy a manual would be great. thanks
Just had to get back here to see if you think it's the HPOP? I changed the Anti drain back ball, spring and seat. still does the same thing. any other ideas. thanks
Just wondering if anyone has any new Ideas. I'm thinking about getting a new HPOP and put it on just to see if that works. I have no codes and no check engine light I'm stuck any comments please. Thakns, MIke
I was unsure how to get attention on this post again. I know Mark get's a lot of messages and don't want him to get upset with me asking him too much. Thanks.
