So im looking at new wheels, Im going to go with 18x9s. I plan to run either a 325x60 or 35x12.5. The two sizes are -12offset with 4.5 in bs or +1offset with 5in bs. What would be better? the -12 will stick out further right?
Yea negative offset puts it further out. In most cases 325/60s equal out to be a little bigger than 35s and a little wider than 12.5s. Depends on the stance your going for.
thanks, sounds good. Ya looking at toyo a/t the 325 is 13” wide and like 33.4” tall and the 35 is 12.5” wide and 34.6” tall they recommend a narrower wheel for the wider tire which seems odd.
Sorry to dig up an old thread (search function) but I'm going through the same dilemma! You wouldn't be happening to be looking at method wheels would you? I want an 18x9 wheel on 35-12.5-18 and was wondering how far they would stick out. I understand the whole +/- offset thing but the backspace change threw me off going from 5 to 4.5, would this suck the wheel in or push it out?? Thanks for reading my rambling :blahblah1:
Back space is exactly that, the distance from the inside of the wheel to the mounting surface. Lay a loose wheel on the concrete and drop a tape measure through the center, the distance from the concrete to the mounting face is the backspace. Backspace is more consistent than offset, a 4.5" backspace will be the same whether it's an 8 inch wheel or a 15 inch wheel. However, a -25 offset on a 10 inch will have a different fitment than a -25 on a 12 inch wheel.
Personally, I wouldn't run a 12.50 tire on anything less than a 10 inch wheel.
So according to that chart, if I'm reading it correctly, is saying that it will have -12 offset over stock also accounting for the change in backspacing? Or is it -12 then plus whatever comes with the .5 less backspacing? I think I get it but I'm puttin way too much thought into this so I keep confusing myself haha. I wouldn't mind -12 but that's really all I would want to go.
You are reading WAY too much into this. Find your width on the left vertical, go to the right until you find your off set, then go up to find your backspace. '05 and up used about 6 inches of backspace from the factory, 99-04 used about 4.5 inches. On that chart, 6 inches of backspace can be anywhere from 70mm to -51mm of off set depending on wheel width.
Haha gotcha, I figured I was getting too far into it. Thanks man, makes sense now
