I was reading online about my tires i have on my truck and i was reading reports of over 300,000 people having problems, alot of people died, injuries, blow outs the tire is a firestone steeltek LT265/75R-16 load E A/T. I dont know if it is safe to go wheelin offroad, airing dow, and then filling them back up and then ride on the parkway? Im getting a lift kit in the next few months or so, with some new tires, so what should i do with these, is it a ticking time bomb with these tires?hnoes:
I have dealt with this issue many times working in a tire shop. IMPO I think the tire is an ok tire it just needs to be run about 5-10 lbs of air pressure about manufacturers recomendations (Fords) but not more then 80lbs of air total.
the Firestone Steeltex A/T is one of the best tires built for durabilty and traction for as many miles as it gets,if Firestone still had some avalible i would take a semi load right now but they are forever gone.the new Firestone Transforce A/T is a different story..this is going off of our experience with them.
actualy to tell if you have deadly tires you will need to look at the dot # on your tires and then compair it with the tires that have had problems. allot of the time all the tires that come with a certain tread pattern arent bad. just specific batches of them identified by the dot number.
also the last 4 numbers of the DOT number will tell you what week and year they were built and if they are old enough they will start to fail and cause trouble so you cain't blame the tire for giving out but hey after awhile we all do the same..
im pretty sure the only problem these tires had were that ford put the psi lower then it should have been. so i would put 5 to 10 more then what ford calls for like stated above
