My clutch seems to have had better days. I've been looking at South Bend clutches but am not sure which one to go with.
What do you guys think about the MU 1939 DF (4-paddle design)? 6 Speed HD Conversion Disk w/ceramic Are there any other parts that you would recommend I change out while I am in there? I see they have the option for an updated clutch fork and pivot.
I don't know if your truck needs the updated fork or not. Mine did but I think Ford changed them at some point. Definitely get a kevlar pilot bushing. I see a lot of good things said about the South Bend clutches. I have a LUK and am pleased.
I see that it comes with the kevlar pilot bushing.
I heard Ford changed them at some point, but I can't remember what year it was either. I heard the kevlar pilot bushing is a must, this stock one is making noise and don't want to have to deal with that again.
i had the dealership put in a new clutch..... i got 135000 out of my first one so i was like i cant beat that so i went back with original. 153000 now and i think it is slipping . or i am breaking traction. try it out and let me know how it works for you LOL keep us posted
have you thought about going with a diff kind of clutch? i have valair performance clutches that are at least as good as the SB clutches if not better.... here is a link: ValAir Performance Clutches
I'm def. open to suggestions. I'm fairly new to my stroke and am basing my decision on what I read (mainly from this great site) and hear.
I don't need an extreme "High Performance" clutch but I do want one that I can beat on every once in awhile and tow with confidence. I don't ever see myself going over 350-400 RWHP.
Im assuming with these clutches I can just have the flywheel resurfaced?
yes you can... as long as its not warped your good.... i like this one because its rated at 400hp and with the upgraded HD clutch disks it i will hold the power better while towing: Stealth Automotive. NMU70241-01 HD
Yah it is these guys are very good... they have been making high performance clutches for big rigs and started to take that same quality and make them into smaller packages for our rigs...
Thanks for the heads up on those clutches! Good chance you'll be getting an order from me soon.
