So i just loaded my sct on to my truck on the street tune and took it for a drive, noticed firmer shifts and def more power, needless to say i love it!!
I keep hearing about this tune called Looney's, how can i get it?
As far as i know i have stock studs on a 2003 with 66k and have had no problems and want to keep it that way
call them and ask what kind of race file they have? all the companies have them just what they call them is different...they can also custom tune one for you
I think Innovative's extreme race tune is pretty equivalent to DJ's looney. I'm not sure what kind of package you got from DPP, so you may or may not be able to get more tunes without paying more. Just drop DPP a PM and ask them.
Do you have gauges and a bigger exhaust yet? If not, you might not want to go for a tune that hot until you have the supporting mods to keep your EGTs down and monitor them.
Rider, even with with your standard street tune from innovative you'll want at the very least a good set of gauges, most importantly the pyrometer to monitor EGT. Call Larry at DPP when you get a chance since that's where you got your Xcal from, you can have an Xtreme Street or Xtreme race file emailed to you for an additional $80. The Xtreme files are definately worth it too... Either one will get you to 400+ rwhp. If you're interested in the looney file from DJ's contact DJ's diesel performance.
when you loaded the files, did you do it from the custom file menu? if you did you got ID's street tune in, and like eveyone said I'd be looking into some gauges if you don't already have them. as stated Innovative charge's $80 for each Xtreme file
Got it, ya i really dont need any extreme tunes at the moment truck seem to have plenty of power. Now does that performance tune have more power than the street? And how much do you guys charge for gauges and the pillar mount i want to get the three with the trans temp.
Yeah, like others have said, even with the street tune you're running, you can get the EGTs high enough to do damage if you really dog it, so the gauges are a very good idea. A set of 3 gauges will run you around 300 bucks with the pillar if you do it yourself. You can spend more on some of the more exotic ones like Dipricol or less for the really cheap ones like Glowshift. Another option is the Quadzilla Commander or the Edge Insight. The Quad is a little cheaper since the pyro probe comes with it standard. You can get it for around 290 bucks. If you want the pillar pod, it's another 40 bucks or so.
They're both. In the form I mentioned, they're just digital gauges. You can get a chip to go along with them, and they can control it. I don't know much about the associated chips that go with them, but SCT is the only way I would ever go on my truck. I have the Quadzilla Commander myself using it as gauges. I don't have the Zillaraider add on chip. It works very well for gauges. I display EGT, boost, and trans temp on mine. Some people like the look of analog gauges better. It's just personal preference. The main reason I went with the Quad is so I could retain my grab handle. I need it to haul my big arse up into the seat. LOL
The hardest part was painting the pod it mounts on. It only comes black. It takes about 5 coats to cover the black, and you have to wait 20 minutes or so between coats. Once it's painted, it just clips over the factory pillar, and the gasket holds it in place. It fits very nicely and securely.
It takes probably an hour to run the wires and mount the trans temp sender. It probably takes 30-60 minutes to drill and tap the manifold for the pyro probe. It's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I was really scared to drill and tap my manifold, and that wasn't a big deal at all.
dam ya that sounds pretty straight forward to me. Thanks for all the help, time to go research some prices and see what i can come up with!! And go test out that sct some more, only had it on for about 15 miles!!!
mine is somewhat similar to that i have street, performance and then a couple different tow ones. Didnt say the exact power, so i just figured that it went street, tow, performance. I have to tow a small trailer next weekend, so ill give the tow one a try and let you guys no what kind of mileage i get.
Yup i raced motocross so i know you from racing seen you at the races a few times. Never got to see your truck done in person, but it sure looks good now. I just got mine but its similar to yours i just got to get a pic. But ya i remember you at sandhill a couple times after having some problems with your yamaha haha
damn thing blew up then they replaced the top end and valves but when it blew the first time it bent the crank so it blew after going up what used to be the first uphill. Took it back and yamaha of santa cruz county and they replaced the crank and top end and new valves and head. wasn't sure about their work but morgan with br1 said the service guy new a lot. bike has been flawless since. straight pipe your truck and you'll love the sound man. Maybe I'll see you out at estreet or club sometime. ttyl.
