Anyone know of a shop I can get my truck inspected in Jacksonville, NC or the vicinity? It has a DPF delete. Last year it was no issue now it seems to be at the same shop. Thanks.

All pro tire in cedar point.. tell Steve drew w/the dodge ram and super duty sent you... generally, he only -requires- an uploaded OBDII report from the vehicle to clear past the states requirements (vin specific and electronically captured/recorded).. the exhaust is a visual inspection that the tech 'checks' off..

Typically isn't the OBD check going to fail because all the smog monitors are incomplete?

Jesus...

Man, I can't keep my brain from blurring gassers and diesels..

The diesel inspection is safety features alone... It sounds like the garage he went to are being pricks.. gassers log obdii, and require visual of emissions.. garages around here who don't inspect diesels regularly, try to do the visual thing and fail folks, even though their computer tells them to just inspect safety features such as lights, blinkers, and the like.

If I'm not mistaken, though, doesn't the tuner give a false report from missing sensors?

Thanks Drew! I will let my wife know as I am currently in Kabul, Afghanistan. Yeah she went to two different shops today, Sanders Garage who said it was missing the DPF and gave her a printout of what the exhaust should look like. Then Evan's tire, who said the same only said it needed a muffler and a bunch of other crap too. Although they are the ones who passed it last year....Go figure. If I were there, I know a spot in Durham, and I would drive the 2 1/2 hours to alleviate all this. Or I guess in 3 years when I retire from the Marine Corps I will just register it in KY where this stuff doesn't exist.... Thanks again.

Dang that sucks man. I had my deleted Cummins inspected many times near Fort Bragg and it always passed in less than 2 minutes. Worst case scenario i know it will pass in Fayetteville.

Eh... In this particular case, I'm not suggesting the garage do anything illegal, but just to the letter of their instructions.. this side of the state requires no emissions, either.. just gotta have safety inspection... In and around charlotte and Raleigh, it's a different story.. diesels are considered exempt with the exception of safety, that hasn't changed... Yet..

The shop failing his wife for a visual is just the shop being pricks.. they didn't have to do that..

Op: keep your powder dry and your head low, I'll buy you a beer when you get home.. I work on mcbcl, next to the combat pool.. a group just left here a couple weeks ago that I hope you weren't part of, as that would mean you still have 7+ months..

Gents,

I appreciate the info. As mentioned, if you have a weighted tag in NC, there is no emmisions check just a visual inspection as to whether or not you have exhaust on the vehicle. Which I do. however, some shops dig to see if it is the stock exhaust, if not, they try to get you to purchase all of the stock parts to "back to stock". Thanks for the info though. If you feel more comfortable, by all means, PM me.

Technically if your home of record is in Kentucky you should still be able to register your vehicles there. When I was stationed in Cali, I kept my truck registered in Colorado and just sent them a check and they sent my tags. But kind of a pain in the a$$ to pull that off from the Stan. Stay safe brother Semper Fi.

Yeah I can still register in there, but because it hasn't been registered there I have to take it there for the local sheriff's dept to match the VIN to my registration, etc... So yeah, real tough from the Stan.... S/F!
