lost my 4w last night in a good snow. wouldnt lock in either.
took em apart greased all and they seem to lock now.
my question is this : if im just in auto and that o ring fails, do the hubs release and i lose 4w while im driving?
Long answer=
When in auto the hubs latch in and latch out, when you first flip the dash switch it sends a pulse of vacuum that lasts about 30 seconds to latch or unlatch the hubs then the vacuum turns off. There is a regulator/solenoid on the passenger fender that sends 15" or 6" depending if you’re going into or out of 4x4. The hubs can fail and stay locked in or fail and stay free, I made a habit of checking my front axles every now and then to make sure they are free when in 4x2. I now have the fender solenoid unplugged so I can use 4x4 low without being locked in while backing trailers and I use my hubs manually. If I want I could always just plug the wire back in to have auto hubs again.
thanks for the reply, i think i'll unplug the chacha too.
