I will try to make this as short as possible but I hope someone can give me an idea on my problem. About 2 weeks ago I had a new PML high capacity tranny pan put on, had issues with it and ended up at my ford dealer, they rebuilt transmission and found a way to cover it under warrenty so i have no problems with them, however I got my truck back yesterday and it has a better transmission but the egt's get extremley high quick and has a lack of power.( Had this problem when I dropped it at dealer and they said it was because of the tranny problems) I can drive 65 mph and have the egts go up to 1000, it lacks power too. I took out the Bullydog programmer when I took it up to the dealer and haven't put it back in, afraid that it will blow something. There is a lack of diesel mechanics in my area and its very hard for me to drop it off somewhere so they can look at it as most of them are over 200 miles away . I am trying to find things that I can check or pass along to whoever I find to look at it. According to Ford there are no codes coming up and its under their recommended egt's. However I used to run 85-90 and barley ever reach 1000 unless I was pulling something. Any input or information would be helpful. (My husband is out of town hauling stuff around this week and is tired of my complaining about it, maybe I will get a new truck out of this:angel: )

i got two very good possibilities for ya......but i need some more info...

Has your boost been normal, or has it been down a bit....

and if its been down, how much???

Also, other than the lack of power, has it been running well???

I have noticed that the boost seems to be high when I am excelerating. I really didn't notice what normal is but when I excelerate it seems to jump from 3-4 to 12-15. It also seems to even out to about 850-950 9egt) after it is set on cruise and I don't need to pass anyone, but that is still higher then normal. It seems to be running okay, the onboard dash guages haven't jumped or gone beyond normal. It also doesn't generate any smoke at all even when I really step into it. The mechanics at the fleet garage where I am at seem to think that it can be the pcm, the ran some tests on the egr and wires and they were okay but it keeps throwing the p0403 and 0405 and the egr valve was replaced by the dealer and the guy took it back out and said it was a little dirty for a new one so thats when we started looking at the wires etc. The Ford service manager told me to bring it back and that pcm is under warranty and they will work on it until it is done. Which I hope is soon because it is a 2 hour drive to that dealer. I still would like any info anyone may have so I have something to compare to. I like to find out as much as possible about things when they break, as you never know when you may need that info again.:giterdone:

the egr code could be caused by the large exhaust if the truck has had the latest reflashes.... ive seen it on quite a few trucks, you just cant make the code go away.....

The reason i ask about boost levels for the High EGT levels is this....if the Y pipe is leaking, or the turbo isnt giving proper boost, you will have unburnt fuel entering the exhaust. the only reason for abnrmally high egt levels is unburnt fuel....also, lack of boost would explain lack of power...

All that said, 1000 degrees isnt anything to worry bout either....

I am just worried because I know with the way it is driving when I hook it up to my trailer I am not even going to get down the road and I am supposed to be moving some stuff and horses in a week or two and need to pull my trailer out to Calif. at least once or twice. When I was towing before it would run around 1000 or so and now I wonder what it would run at?? Just trying to be careful and not totally blow my truck up!! Thanks!!:D

if i was you, i would check it with a trailer on....

Just for kicks, climb underneath. Look over both sides of the tranny. There is a pipe running from the exhaust manifold on each side, to the turbo. they run up and meet at the turbo. There is a fat spot on each pipe. Look around that "fat spot" also known as a flex coupler....look for any signs of soot on the pipe or on the metal close to it....just black residue..

I will do both tomorrow, (I wonder if work will consider it a sick day for me since my truck is not well??;) It is a little dark here and I don't have a garage or outdoor lighting. I will post the info tomorrow!!:thumb:

Does it do this right from startup, or does it sometimes run ok right at start up and the high EGT issue comes after driving for a while?

If I had to guess, you've got a VGT issue. The unison ring in the turbo is notorious for rusting and sticking. The other problem the VGT has had (my truck does this all the time) is a crappy solenoid that sticks. The VGT solenoid on my personal truck will stick after driving at a constant speed on the highway for a short period of time and won't reset until I shut the truck off.

Does the exhaust note sound normal at idle? When mine sticks, the exhaust sounds like a big block gasser at idle ALL THE TIME...no turbo "whoosh" at idle...just "rumble". I can hear it leaving traffic lights too...all rumble and the truck is very "flat" off idle until the rpm gets high enough to make some boost.

Hope that helps.

No it gets high egts right off the bat and the exhaust sounds normal, but I am having a hard time with the turbo noise can't really tell what it is doing and I thought that I heard my fan go on yesterday while I was driving homw which I have never heard before on a flat road. I will pass along that info when I drop it off at the shop. I am having them check everything!!!!!! Thanks;)

Marc

I just got back from shop and told them to check everything I could think of, and what was posted here, I also checked underneath before I left and didn't really see any soot or residue, didn't have enough time to check with trailer but after driving the 180 miles to the shop I know it won't pull the trailer, it is really having a hard time going up even the littlest hill. Makes me think of the Little Red Engine story!!!! Hope they can find out what is wrong this time. Will keep it posted when I find out.
Thanks for all the help.:)

Thanks:beer:
I noticed you have the led tailgate lights, how do you like them and where did you get them, I have been thinking about that, and adding some lights on the rail under my doors where my tube steps used to be. (they were ugly so they left)
