4wd manually engaged at hub

I've got the dash 4wd switch (is this normal - I dont know) - the vacume is messed up so until I get that part fixed - will it hurt to manually engage my hubs and leave them like that. Then I can switch my switch to 4wd and proceed on my merrily muddy way.

Will this work?

Will it hurt to drive my daily commute with the hubs engaged but the switch still set to 2wd?

Understanding that this would probably kill mileage a bit - but could it be done without hurting the truck?

No it will not hurt nothing. My auto hubs have been messed up for a while now. I know it is a vaccuum leak. Every year when hunting season comes I lock the hubs in manually and leave them locked in until spring. The only thing I have noticed is a small decrease in fuel mileage. But that could be from the winter mix fuel they sell here in Michigan as well. But as for damage to the front axle I have yet to have any problems doing this.
