When I bought my truck the yellow drain valve was broken off so I'm gonna finally replace it as I'm gonna do a filter change. Is it just 2-3 bolts then the assembly comes off and replace the valve? Is there a way to not pour fuel all over the ground? If anyone has tips on doing this I'd really appreciate it since I don't really wanna dump 1/4 tank of fuel on my buddies garage floor.

I broke mine also the fisrt time cracking it open. dont think the previous owner ever drained it, it was seized and when i got it to budge it broke in the open position. i though it would drain my whole tank but it didnt. only about a gallon or so. it took a while for it to stop draining enough that it wouldnt douch on me. pretty easy to change. just be sure to install the little rubber o rings or you will loose your whole tank on the ground. Yeah just 3 bolts

Sorry for the late chime in but it's just those three and it'll drain the low pressure housing out. You'll want to go ahead and clean the housing while you have it apart.

The kit to fix it comes with new gaskets and lever and costs about $40-45.

i attempted to do it but i only had the torx bit in a socket and the driveshaft is in the way so ill have to go out and buy an allen key with a torx head on it but ive been told that the bolts tend to snap sometimes is this true?

I removed the whole separator when I made this repair. I sprayed the bolts with PB blaster and they came out easy.
