Here's the scenrio. Thursday, I drove the truck to work, some 40 freeway miles. On the way home I fueled it up and got 14.3 mpg going home. I spent all weekend changing engine oil, filter, transmission oil (all 6.5 quarts :-( ), installing gauges and the DP Tuner. I drove it to work again this morning and the fuel mileage JUMPED to 19.5 mpg!!!!! I drove the exact same speed and RPM (65 @ 2,000). The freeway is pretty much the same in both directions, some up hill and some down. Overall, I got 20.3 mpg (I continued past the test Thursday's test section). As I had the cruise set on both trips the only thing I can attibute it to is the DP Tuner on the 80 h.p. economy setting. . Then I realized that I even had some town driving Sunday evening when I went to turn in the old oil at the recycle place and top off the tank (fuel went down GO FIGURE!!) I'm going to test it again tonight going home. And they say the Cummins is the fuel milage king. PSD can compete with it any day on an apples to apples comparision. I LOVE me Ford.

That's watching the overhead consul. I checked it early on and, like CHenry, mine is very close to hand calculated using a GPS for total miles drivin'. I'll reset everything tonight on the way home and try it just exactly like the base reading (direction, time of day and no extra around town driving). I'll be heading out for the T-giving holiday on "Tuesday" morning so no posting till next week. Then, I'll also have towing numbers. I was getting 7.5 mpg towing 18-19K pounds. Depends on how much stuff the wife loads in the 5'r. Great Holidays all!:flag::flag::flag: GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats man.... I've not checked my mileage lately.. but the miles per tank I was seeing on my trip to NC was spot on with what I've gotten in the past... somewhere in the 17 mpg range. I could maybe improve that a little with an oil change (it's almost due) fuel filter, and changing the lube in the diffs.

I reset the trip meter when I fueled up yesterday. I'll be fueling again tonight in prep for the trip to turkey day land. I'll be able to get a for sure mpg reading tonight. Time will tell.

Yah, these trucks can get pretty decent mileage -- I have to say I'm pretty impressed with these trucks compared to gassers I've owned prior!

I can't seem to get a handle on my MPG

going to SSS -- I hand calculated (total miles divided by gallons to full) at each fillup and was getting around 20 MPG!!!

the computer was saying around 17.5 MPG (never reset it between tanks, included idling and in-town driving) and then when I calculated a "whole trip" MPG by dividing TOTAL miles by TOTAL gallons, I got a whopping 15.6 MPG :dunno: I have no idea what happened to my calculations... but, I think I may have added in my starting tank to get to full, which would have thrown it off by about 30 gallons... I bet that would explain it

Well, here's a little up date on the truck. Over the t-givin' holiday (week :thumb:) we went to Panamint Valley (sometimes called Northern end of Death Valley or Balarat). We went in through the town of Trona. There's a steep incline into Balarat (ghost town where we camped). The test was on the way out. F350 came through with flying colors. It pulled the grade in second gear without breaking a sweat. Egts stayed at no more than 1200. I was pulling my 39' toy hauler with a '66 Bronco in the back. I guessing around 18000 pounds since the 150 gal water tank was low, two gray water tanks empty, 40 gal black water tank was full :eek:hnoes: and 40 gallon fuel station at 1/4 tank on the gauge. I had the DP tuner on #3 (60 h.p. tow mod). It did very nicely.
One guy on this site hit the nail on the head when he said that the DP tuner changes the factory mpg reading. My 20+ mpg calculated out to 14+ mpg. Oh well, I didn't buy this thing for mpg, it Tows like a world class champion weight lifter!!!

DP's 60 tow program is awesome!!! I actually love to tow with my truck since I got DP tunes. I was reading your post and saying to myself "This poor guy is going to be real bummed when he realizes his overhead display isn't correct when running on a tune, other than factory!!" However I have found that my 80 econo is off a consistent 3 mpg on the overhead, and the 60 tow is off about 1 mpg, so it is easy to figure milage out now. I haven't calc'd the 120 race as I just had Jody send it to me a couple weeks ago.

BTW, I noticed you said you changed your ATF, but stated you only changed 6.5 quarts??? This tells me all you did was drain the pan and fill back up. Is this what you did? What about the other 12-13 quarts that are in the VB, Cooler lines and TC? Not exactly what I would call a fluid change. With the 6.0 cooler our ATF cooling system holds just shy of five gallons of fluid. You can do a complete flush by pulling the return line and adding fluid as you shift through the gears. If you want the complete how to just PM me. I'm not trying to tell you how to maintain your truck, I just didn't want you to think you actually changed your tranny fluid.
Take Care
