$200 well spent / Happy ears

A few years ago I replaced my stock stereo with am Alpine DVD/NAV unit. Sound was better, but still sucked. Then a couple years ago I put a small powered sub behind the rear seat. Sound still sucked, but at last I had so some lows.

For Christmas my wife bought me Polk speakers. DB6501 6.5" components for the front and DB651 6.5" for the rear. Along with the adapter plates, it was all under $200 from Ebay. I just finished installing it all. Money well spent!! I finally have a respectable sounding stereo! If you've still got those crappy stock speakers, ditch em. They are horrible. I finally have the highs I've been missing and can turn up the volume to an enjoyable level without distortion.

Like many of the guys on the forum, I drilled the 2" holes and flush mounted the tweeters in three door just above the black panel where the window switches are. Looks slick and sounds great!

Can you post some pics? I'm looking to do something similar. I got a Kenwood head unit for christmas and I already have a kenwood amp powering a kicker 10" sub behind the back seat but I am in desperate need of some good door speakers and tweeters. I would love a good 8 piece kit from kicker if its a reasonable price. I've been looking at jl and focal so I know I'm going to be spending some $$$ but I know it will be well worth it.

Mike pics are gonna have to wait bud, it's below freezing here and I'm sick as hell. Also you called me Brian and not Bryan lol :poke:.

Ryan I like it a lot. It has nice clear crisp highs and mids and deep clear lows for a component system. The truck has a kenwood navigatigation system that was hooked up to a stealth box and stealth hanging amp but the sub and amp were the moved before I got it. The kenwood allows me to change EVERYTHING to tweak the highs mids and lows as well so if you have a good ear for sound you can really make this thing come to life.

That's great to hear Bryan. I have always been thinking that would be one of the things I would do to my truck. The stock system is just not up to my standard lol. I also like the idea of the surround sound. I am someone who really likes to hear the drums and stuff in songs. That's why Phil Collins "in the air tonight" is my official air drums song :roll1:

I plan on gathering up all the parts in the next few weeks and doing a writeup on the whole build.
This would be awesome. My truck just turned from an occasional weekend cruiser to a daily driver and I need a stereo that doesn't shut off on its own after every bump in the road.

I like my system a lot. The fit behind the back seat was VERY tight but there is just enough room. My amp is mounted on a board attached to the back wall of the cab. I have the Pioneer 1400 DVD player, 4x Kicker 6x8 speakers, 2x Kicker Comp 10" subs, and a Kicker 500.1 500 watt amp. Sounds incredible. Shopped around on Amazon and got great prices on stuff ($222 for the head unit which runs $299 everywhere else I've looked) and $50 a piece for the subs. I paid $280 to have it all installed and the guy had it done the same day I dropped the truck off. Couldn't be happier with it.

i installed a kicker system in my first truck and it blew a speaker in the first month. i took it back and they did replace it for free but i was always kinda nervous to turn it up to far after that.
