when im tapping the wires to the map sensor and for the coolant do I need to expose the actual copper wire or can I just leave it in the plastic casing? if that makes sense. I called quad and got no answer, im sure they are closed by now. I'm waiting on you guys. thanks for any help. :thumb:
thanks 720deere. I got the coolant and map taken care of. Now im dealing with the tranny sensor. The tranny that is in the picture of quadzilla's instructions doesn't match up with the tranny on my truck. here is a pic of what I think I have to remove. Can anyone help me confirm that that is the piece I need to unbolt to install the tranny sensor???? thanks guys. great help so far!!
The test port that you're looking for is barely showing on the left edge of your photo. Several inches forward of the shift lever and about 2 inches up from the pan gasket is a small bolt that you remove and replace with the sending unit.
ok cool. That is the only one I can see. However, on my truck it is to the left of the drain bolt whereas in the quad instructions it shows it being to the right of the drain bolt and the ford logo. Quad's instructions suck. I could write better ones. I took a pic and uploaded it but you answered my question before I could post it. here it is anyway.
well I figured the tranny sensor our but when it came to the fuse it fell apart. The instructions read something like "put the yadda yadda over the leg of the fuse then reinstall the fuse". well, I removed the thing under the steering wheel then took the top off the fuse box and pulled the fuse but couldn't figure out for the life of me, or my roommate, how to install the yadda yadda over the leg of the fuse. The wire is covered with black tubing so you can't put the fuse cover back on. I plugged everything up and it didn't work. so I either have a bad ground or the fuse dealie isn't hooked up right. oh and another thing the instructions say is "find THE bolt by the firewall and ground the wire to it". well, there is no damned bolt it might as well say "find A bolt...". I'll figure it out tomorrow. I'm gonna go get sh!tfaced at the bars. and quadzilla if you read this, your instructions suck!
lmao.... come back fresh tomorrow.
The fuse connection is made to pull the fuse that they designate, slip the open end of the wire connection over one side of the fuse and reinstall the fuse.
Any bolt that touches metal is a good ground.
well...that fuse explanation seems to make sense and match what I did. I should have taken a pic. Maybe the ground is bad. Since "THE" bolt wasn't by the firewall I ran the it back out the hole in the firewall and to a bolt that bolts the fender down, it has a washer on it so maybe thats why???
Any bolt under the dash that bolts to CLEAN non rusted or painted METAL is a good ground. That metal has to be bolted to other metal that eventually gets back to the frame... is that clear as mud? lmao.
that's my problem then. It's grounded to black painted metal. I'll get it taken care of tomorrow. For those of you that have installed the commander...any tips you can give me?
Theres a silver metal bracket...i think the brake pedal mount...under the dash, thats a good ground and theres a bolt on there somewhere you can loosen and use.
Oh well, too late to chime in, everyone else got you covered. As stated, it has to be a clean ground. I had that problem (along with other that Quad fixed & one they are still "working" on).
Enjoy, and BTW, good thinking with the pics.:thumb:
Yes, i used this bracket under the dash...i think its the brake pedal mount. It has a few bolts on it that are easily accesible and you can loosen one up and put and use it.
alrighty well I moved the ground wire to the brake pedal bolt and gave it a whirl and no luck. so im assuming it's this damn fuse dealie. I'll be posting pics of the fuse and the fuse dealie and hopefully you guys can tell me if I have it on there right. the damn thing makes no sense to me. you'd think quadzilla could have simply put a picture of it, they make it sound so damn easy in the instructions. argh. lol
I'm stumped. everything is plugged in right and it's grounded to the brake pedal. Guess it's the damned fuse dealie. I'll call quadzilla tomorrow. thanks guys.
Mine was a 7.3 and it was 20 something, Not sure what #45 is, what if you put it in a different one? I had no problems with my install. not sure, good luck. the first time I installed mine, I had to mess with it, it didn't make a VG connection and it was a real PITA to get the fuse in. I really had to push on it. havne't had an issue yet.
Sounds like you tapped the headlight circuit. You want to find an ignition circuit. I am getting ready to head out to work, I'll look under my dash on the way out if I get a chance.
