hey im new to this site....i just bought a 1992 f-350 diesel crew cab long bed . im looking to do some mods to the motor to get a little bit more power. i am thinking about turning up the fuel pump about an 1/8 of a turn, but not until i get a pyrometer. if anyone has any ideas or advice its much appreciated. thank josh
get a gauge and go to town on that pump...it'll smoke like a freight train....If I could find a standard cab IDI I'd add it to my collection any day, very very good trucks.... and I'm thinking the pump I turned up for a buddy only went 3/4 of a turn so be ready for that 1/8 to do alot!!
No it will not cut your mileage in half...at first it might cause you won't be able to keep your foot out of it....the only other thing I can think of is some old ford bus's used 6.9's and they were turbocharged...don't ask me how I know, but there happened to be a mine real close and I was able to inspect an old abandoned 86 International bus they had, and it was turbocharged and if you take all the tubing it will hook right up to your motor
no no no..okay my buddy's pump only had 3/4's of a turn from stock until it was all the way up....so I'm saying an 1/8 will be a LOT more fuel tan you think it will be.
You've got that right. We usually go around 1/4 with the installation of a turbo kit. We actually still offer them (sidewinder turbo kits) but not for much longer. We're going to discontinue them in December
I think if there was a turbo on one you could go much farther than 1/4 of a turn? My buddy did melt a hole in #7 but thats to be expected with it being all the way up with 300,000 miles
If your running around empty or lightly loaded you can go alot higher. Our instructions take into account towing at the trucks max limit. If you want to go higher go right ahead but keep an eye on your egt gauge
I HAVE A 94 FACTORY TURBOED IDI IVE TURNED THE FUEL UP ABOUT 1/2-3-4 TURN PUT A K/N DROP IN FILTER AND BUILT A 4IN EXHAUST STILL HAVE FACTORY DOWN PIPE HOW MUCH WOULD ADJUSTING THE TIMING HELP @ HOW DO I DO IT @HOW MUCH IT RUNS GREAT @GETS 18MPG ON INTERSTATE
I have a '94 factory turbo also. I have only had it about 2 wks., I wrecked my '08 powerstroke and needed something to drive so I bought this truck for $2500. I absolutely love it!! It is a running dude! I have an '89 non turbo that I have turned the pump up on and also changed the timing on. All you have to do is loosen up the pump where it bolts to the front of the engine and turn it about 5 degrees, maybe a little more. I think you turn it toward the driver side fender, I can't remember for sure. I am going to have to call a friend of mine and ask him, then I will let you know. I plan on turning up my '94 after I put a new 3'' down pipe on it that I bought from Banks for $109 delivered. I am also going to put a bigger exhaust on it too, plus a new air intake that I ordered from Hypermax, it gets its air from the vents in front of the windshield. I am trying to keep my EGT's as low as possible because I pull really hard( 40' flatbed trailer). I also put an after market tranny cooler on it, and a pyrometer, I think I have a little room with my EGT temps like they are but I want to make sure. This truck has 289,000 miles, and my '89 has a little under 300,000 miles and they both run great! To tell the truth I like the '94 a whole lot better than my '08, I know it will out run the '08! I'll let you know what I find out on the timing issue, I think it needs to be done when they get turned up. Let me know if I can help, just private message me!
