my truck has started making kind of a humming noise going down the road. sounds almost like tire noise but rotating the tires did not change it. it gets louder the faster im going down the road, and is more noticeable when taking a turn ether to the left or right, hubs locked or unlocked does not affect it. and i cant feel any vibration anywhere.
im thinking bearings but before i go spend the money on those id like to be a little more sure thats what it is.
I'm in the same boat right now.
I start gett'n that little vibration and noticable 'hum' around 35-40mph. If I get up to highway speeds, I'm starting to get a bit of a 'thump' with it :/
I'm having my mechanic check it on Monday to confirm. I'm already putting together a list of all the stuff needed.
I just recently got the EX with 175k, and i've put 10k more on it, and I don't know what the previous owner did (which is likely not much) so I'm looking at about $500 in all new parts including the hubs, seals and new U-Joints.
Figure since I'm gonna have to pull everything off to do the joint's properly - may as well replace the hubs/bearing assembly for the peace of mind.
I'm not much of an axle guy, I know just enough in this area to be dangerous - so can anyone confirm if this 1) is the right kit to get and 2) worth this price? Ebay - Spicer U-joint and Seal Kit
In my case, it's been confirmed it's the hubs (well drivers side hub for sure.)
