Hey guys. Im supposed to pick my new '06 F-250 up Tuesday. My question is do you guys know if there are still alot of problems with the '06 6.0 engines? I just found out about some problems they were having and didn't know if it was true or just rumor. I like the Ford over the Dodge, but can get a better deal on the Dodge. Like I said I like the Ford better, but was wondering what the general thoughts were. Thanks fellas..
Ernie
Welcome Ernie! Don't believe all the rumors TRUST ME. Everyone can get a lemon but my money is on you simply LOVING you're rig like I do mine. I've around 30K of Dodge and GM kickin' tail on my PSD and every time I get behind her, I smile just as I did when I drove her off the lot. I hope you'll stick around, we've some great folks on here with loads of info and we're very family oriented.
Nice, thanks for the quick reply's fellas.....I was leaning towards the Ford anyhow, but you guys pushed me over...lol....BTW..its all black with black leather, 6' bed. So what should my first mod be?! lol..
I've been trolling the net for about 2hrs...lol...I've been looking at the Banks bundle pack. It includes their software, pda display, and 4" exhaust. Anyone have this?
First mod should be gauges, after you learn what's going on under the hood then put on a good 4 in exhaust. Leave the air filter stock. It's hard to clean the air any better than the stock filter will do, and if you do have to take it back to have work done on it you will not have to fight Ford about your air mod. I didn't see what state you are from but some states let you get by with out the cat. Enjoy your new truck. I still have a hard time getting the smile off my face when driving it though town. Any town.
Good to know, thanks Doug. Im from Maryland, btw. And I "believe", the pda display shows egt, boost, and trans. slippage, like the Edge, but Im not sure yet.
I just put the BD Diesel XMonitor on my truck this pasted Thursday. Should have put it on first thing. I am learning how not to drive my truck now with a heavy trailer behind it. I like the read out on it just fine. Be sure you know what you want when you go shopping for Mods.
I know you are having sleepless nights just thinking about getting the new truck on Tuesday.
If the dealer you are shopping at sells both brands I would use the ford problems trump card for a better price that is if you havent already agreed on one. you can always walk out the door dont get in a hurry they want to sell you that truck they just dont know how bad yet. stand tuff. Anyway on problems I have a 06 with 4500 miles on it . Had an injector go bad ended up replacing a cylinder head. Most mechanical things will break. But the ford folks realize there are problems and they are standing by them. Just remember if you tune it take it out before it goes back to the dealer. Unless they install it and will stand behind it. Some dealers wont stand behind the warranty if you sneeze wrong, so ask questions. This was not meant to scare you away from the 6.0 This is my second one and the first problem in over 170000 miles, had to trade the frist one in for a FWD cause of a job change. Go with the FORD you will love it, the first time you "smoke"a so called muscle car!!! GOOD LUCK!! :flag: BUY AMERICAN!!!!!
Most of the problems with the 6.0 seemed to have been ironed out, but there's still the very occasional issue here and there which is normal I think. As for the Banks stuff, do you really want to spend a ton of money for some extra power and a pda? There's a lot more out there that will give you better power than banks and you can get other displays do the same for less.
go with the dodge! i just traded one of my fords in for an 06 dodge. as much as i love my other 05 f350 cc dually xlt sport (fully fully loaded) as soon as i find a buyer im buying another dodge. a month in the service bay and having to almost file to sue before warrantee work is done will do that. truck only has 25k on it.
The only Ford running DHRA Pro Street is Mini Me, a 2003 6.0L whose best has been an 11.82 @116.8 mph, weighing 6360 lbs and that was going sideways down the track. Mini Me ran Pro Street last year and although she is registered to run Pro Street this year she is presently at Suncoast Race Cars getting suspension work, a 4-link, mini tub and losing almost 1000 lbs. in order to run the Pro Street class at 5500 lbs. Mini Me's 60 ft. was at 1.8+. With a better 60 ft. and hooking the track Mini Me has the potential to run low 10's.
It may not be put back together for this season but then it will give all the Dodge and Chevys a run for their money, next season. Stay tuned.
P.S. I had originally posted times for the two runs but since I'm not sure if I am referencing the right videos, I removed it. The black trucks' best time was a 12.9 and Amarillo 13.2.
I have an 06 F-250 with the 6.0 and have the entire Banks Six-Gun Bundle w/ PDA on my truck and have had no problems with any of it. I have about 60,000 miles on it and it stills runs great. Has anyone ever had problems with their transmissions using the Banks Six-Gun? I haven't yet, but heard that a few people were after a while.
yeah mine felt like it was going to fall out of my truck. shifting felt like it was just slipping into the next gear because they defuel at the shift points. I would recomend selling the 6 gun on ebay (i got 900 for mine) and get an SCT with Innovative diesel tunes and a set of gauges. youll break even and save your trans. because of thetransmission tuning they offer. thats what I did and havent looked back. 20 000 on my truck since i switched and its been great. nice crisp shifts too
