Coolant system question

Been doing some repairs to my truck recently and it's taken me a long time to complete them in the past few months.. if memory serves me correctly I noticed this problem before I started my repairs. In the degas bottle my coolant is really dark/brown.. I recently had to replace the o-ring for my intake manifold because it blew so I haven't filled the system back up with coolant yet. Once I got everything back together I filled everything up with water just to make sure I don't have anymore leaks and installed everything back properly. So far so good, however when I went to drain the water back out it comes out brown.. almost like dirty water. After test driving it the water in the degas bottle is brown.

I'm not sure if this is an issue due to iron/rust build up or if I have an oil leak in my oil cooler. Been trying to research into the issue, but I'm striking out. The water didn't feel oily, but I didn't know how much oil would leak or how diluted the mixture would be (also I didn't think that oil/water mixed)

Just looking for a little guidance to determine what the issue is, any ways to test my oil/egr cooler to make sure there aren't any leaks?

If it was oil whether engine or transmission oil once it circulates enough it turns into something resembleing p-nut butter.

Either it's really rusty or at some point a red coolant was put in. A thourough flush is recomended

That's good to hear, no signs of peanut butter sludge, its just murky colored. I'll do a good flush and see if that works.

I didnt know there was a red coolant honestly, I'm going to do the flush and go back with the ford gold. Been reading up on what coolants are suggested and I didn't realize the specs you should follow. I appreciate the help!

Don't use green.
Use the ford gold or, since you're going to be flushing it anyway, chasnge to an ELC (red).

There is a ton of info on this subject, try a quick search and read away for as long as you like.

It looked like it blew out, about a 1/4th of it was gone, very possible that it was eaten away. I'll post a pic of it

edit: i also have in the back of my mind seeing "dex-cool" on a coolant I picked up before. not sure if I actually bought it and used it or not though.

how would fuel make it to the coolant?

I dropped it on the ground so that's where the dirt came from, the piece that is missing was pulled out of the recessed area also

I just noticed also that my a/c is not blowing cold air. I thought I connected everything back together properly. Air blows, just not cool air. A/c cluster works as should... any ideas about why my a/c isn't blowing now?

Had someone take a look at it and they think the compressor isn't turning on possibly
