Recently started repairing the rust that has accumulated on my frame, cab corners, suspension, and rockers. Here's a few pics of the progress to this point. The gray is Herculiner bed liner. This is my first time ever tackling any body work.
To this point this is how far I am. Here is a picture of the inner rocker and the rust line that was caused from sand, salt, and moisture being trapped inside.
Now all the rockers taken off, as well as he cab corner (the bottom of the rocker actually rusted off because of the steps that attach straight to the rockers. I suggest if you have this kind of setup up to get rid of it if you live anywhere they spread salt)
My friend is making me a new inner rocker (can't find an after market stamped piece)
More pictures to come....Doing the passenger side today
Nice work man. My truck had the same exact problem due to the stupid running boards. the huge mounting plate holds salt behind it and rots it out. Mine is not that bad though so I think i am just going to plate the hole behind where the mounting bracket was bolted. I still need the outer rockers and cab corners tho. I want my truck to last a long time so I want to do it right like you are. What were the steps you took to prep and paint the frame? Were you able to get the inside of the frame rail where the fuel and brake lines run?
My frame was in pretty good shape to begin with because it was undercoated several years back. Any loose rust I had wired brushed off and for the hard to reach spots, like under the the frame cross members I was a needle scaler. The needle scaler worked really good for spots I couldn't reach. I then made sure the frame was completely clean of any dust and brushed on Chassis Saver. I put 2 coats on the whole frame and then clear coated it.
