well my 2002 7.3 needs some work done and requires the motor coming out, needless to say i only want to pull it once. here is what i plan on doingwhile it is out, new oil pan, up pipes, exhaust manifold gaskets, and turbo pedestal o rings. what other preventive maintenance would you guys do?
im not looking to build power, just looking to keep oil in the dang thing but as long as i have the motor out figured id ask what else would be agood idea to take care of.
Right on. So, don't put money into head studs if you aren't planning to "build" your engine. It would be money spent better elsewhere, or at least money saved. It really kinda sounds like everything else you're doing is pretty much gonna cover all the bases. I can't think of anything else to do if you're just trying to fix leaks, etc.
How bad's your leak? Mine leaks too but not enough that I have to keep putting oil in it, etc. Mine is a little tired here and there sometimes and I probably have a leak around the up-pipe that I don't even know about. I guess I'm sayin' that all our 7.3's are getting some age now and mine's always leaked for that matter (since I bought it with about the mileage your's has now). And the ole truck still starts everytime. It would take something pretty extensive for me to pull the engine out.
I'm not trying to talk you out of pulling your engine out....but is your leak pretty substantial?
the oil pan leak is bad enough that i dont think it will last another minnesota winter.
