Squeaking Noise with Ignition On before starting

There is a squeaking noise coming somewhere under the hood or possibly even the fuel pump when i turn the key to on and warm the glow plugs. It goes away after about 15-20 seconds. I assume its the electric fuel pump, however I've never heard a pump make this squeaking noise that changes in tone. I have a walbro 255lph pump in my subaru thats loud as heck and the sound is nothing like this. Almost like a door closing in a haunted house...lol. Is my fuel pump on its way out?

im bumping my thread again. I just went and sat under the rail mounted fuel pump and heard the sound come from the engine bay. So I went to the engine bay and heard it distinctly from the top of the motor. It comes on when the glow plug relay switches on.

So to reiterate its not the fuel pump, its something on the motor. Not a vacuum pump...as I've heard that before from the passenger side. Sounds like a small compressor if thats the vacuum pump.

I think I have this same sort of problem...only it comes and goes. It's not every time I turn the ignition on. It's like a whine/squeak as you're describing. I saw another thread talking about this same sort of thing and they ruled it the vacuum pump. If that's not it, I'd like to get more info as well...

Thanks for the clip man! And yep, that's the noise. Although I have started my truck atleast 5 different times today and it hasn't done it. I have not added a BB to my FPR? (Don't know what that is) haha, this is my first diesel and have owned it for almost a week. :D

Sounds like the FPR has a problem... Might be sucking air? Strange I have never heard that...

Problem SOLVED !

It was the top gasket on the fuel filter....the one which seals the cap. I was able to unscrew the cap, reseat the seal, and problem is gone. Everyone be advised. Something simple can be so irritating. Jhall...go fix that thing buddy!

And thanks to everyone for their help with diagnosis. We knew it was fuel related....and many said air. It was air being pressurized and leaking through the gasket so it seems.

I checked my lid and it was barely hand tight!!!! Maybe I could have loosened it while pulling the turbo like 20 times?!?!? Anyhow, re-tightened the cap and tested...no more squeal during startup and idle but still squealing under acceleration. Took cap off and flipped gasket....same thing....

I'll try a new gasket I guess, but.......
