High Output Injection pump for 6.0??

Well ford thinks my injection pump is bad, which is why I'm not getting any power to the ground when I'm under heavy load(throttle :D) or hooked up to the trailer.
so my question is, does anyone make a bad A$$ unit to stick in there? Since my stock unit took a dump, or should I just let them put a stocker back in, and it should be fine?

thanks
Hoss

Its not actually called an injection pump, but a high pressure oil pump or hpop. If its still under warrenty have them put an new stock pump in.

So just so I understand, The Hpop is the fuel injection pump, that sits back under the turbo??? I thought the Hpop actually did pump oil not fuel, and was out in front of the motor.

Yep the hpop does pump high pressure oil to the injectors in order for them to operate.

#5 ·
Yeah the hpop uses engine oil to mechanically or hydraulically fire the injectors. Maybe your fuel pump is going bad?

Well if its the fuel pump, I'd go ahead and get a bigger tank while i'm at it.

Would this HPOP cause the symptems I'm having, only on extreme load, p2099 code, and starving of fuel, so it pretty much falls flat on it's face?? Normal driving it's fine, it's only when there's a demand for extra fuel.

If this is the case, I can't wait to see what innovatives tunes really feel like. I've been running them, and honestly thinking "is this it" I even got beat by a late model chevy ss pickup ha ha that ruined my whole week. lol

Sure its possible. Your sure its not a fuel pressure problem as far as a fuel pump not keeping up. Did they check your fuel pressure first?

#10 ·
Yeah ask them if they did a fuel pressure test.

Well I got the truck back yesterday, and it feels the same, they changed the HPOP, so now what? They said they checked the injectors, I don't know if they checked the fuel pump itself, but I would think that would of been one of the first things they checked, but I have to call and ask them, the techs weren't there when I picked up.

I had the same problem in a 00 7.3, spent thousands on trying to fix this problem at ford. Then I found out that the ulsdiesel that they sell in ca eats the lining in the ford fuel tanks. I just droped the tank and cleaned the two filters that are in the tank. This fixed my problem, hope it helps

Ok i do not know small diesels at all but i have seen ads for the cummings and dmax for injection pumps but..... the fords have what i would say is similer to a gasser fuel pump i.e. the pump is in the tank, is this correct? If so where would you get larger pumps, i would think it safe to say its not the same as a gasser pump just happens to be in the same location.
Thanks for helping me understand a little more:thumb:

You are correct, they are similar to fuel injected gasser fuel pumps, in the super duty. They are frame mounted, not in the tank. FASS makes a high flow fuel system for 'em.

with that code there are several things it can be , one being the pump, ipr regulator , or fuel pressure being the least probable, but possible, depending on prodution date which makes a difference in design of hpop you have , if its the early style pump with the cast iron cover they can get weak and may cause your problem, and replace ipr regulator in conjunction with that repair ,
something tells me in the back of my mind you have more than one problem, i just dont see a high pressure oil pump causing a low power issue , the 2290 code yes, but low power no,

my truck is 6/04. So normally the ipr gets changed with the HPOP?? Thanks for all the input by the way!! You guys have been a great help, not walking into a dealer blind, or a little less blind. LOL

well generally thats is up to the tech doing the repairs but what you usually find if there actually is a problem with the pump is there is debris coming out of the pump and into the screen in the end of the ipr , so its just good rule of thumb to replace it , the ipr is very important to this engine to run like its supposed to and its hard to get to so it just makes since to replace it also, and by the way by the production date of your truck is very well could have the older style pump, let me know how this deal goes , im curious if it fixes your problem , like i say i feel like theres more to it , make them gaurantee you that will fix it and then if it doesnt , make them fix it right

I didn't mention this before, but I do have another sympton, when I first start my truck in the morning, it feels really, really strong, the power is very close to what I know it should have, I don't romp on it, but it's such a big difference that just light pressure on the accelerator the truck just really wants to take off, this only lasts for about five minutes however, then it starts acting like it normally does. I don't know if this makes any sense, I just know my truck, and how it acts. What does IPR stand for anyway? I did call my dealer, and ask them about it, waiting for a call back, and I told them I will probably be taking it back there, when my schedule permits. I feel like, I'm the freakin customer that just won't go away!!!

not to hijack, but i've noticed my truck lately is taking longer and longer to start when i crank it. is there a way to check if this is pressure leaking from the HPOP, i've never taken my truck to the dealer for warranty work, EVER. so i don't know what to do. i'll start a new thread about this though.

you need to get somebody with a MAC, Snap-on, etc scanner and they can read ICP. Under a hard load you should see about 4000 psi. When my hpop went bad I could only make about 1700 psi. The truck would run normal under light drviing but when you really needed the power it just wasn't there.

can i take it to the dealer and tell them i suspect the HPOP and have them check it ?
i've never had my truck to a dealer for any kind or warranty work before so i dont even know what i can / can't expect from them.

i guess that's a good thing in a way, since my truck has never had to go :)
