Hey guys, I need to replace my steering gear box. I stripped out the top bolt hole threads.

Is a red head gear box worth the extra money over stock, and is there a write up explaining how to change the box out?

Thanks in advance guys, I will be doing this repair in a couple months after I get home from my curent deployment.

just pulled mine out cause i stripped it off roading(stripped gear internally). Was very easy, one tightening bolt up top holds steering connect into gear, 3 bolts through frame hold it in place, and then the pitman arm nut, got it out in about 30 min. New rebuild from ford dealer is $374 when you turn in your core. I ordered ORU hydrosteer kit that comes with new gear and hydro assist stuff to ensure it dont happen again...spendy, but i figure worth it to prevent further issue. Thanks for your service brother, im military also, head out on next "adventure" 27 Oct.... good luck

I just checked out the ORU system. I am now leaning towards this as the fix for my problem.

How do you like your ORU set up? I like that the ram takes stress away from the frame mounted gear box. I just don't know about giving up my dual steering stabalizers. Is the ram transparent when daily driving, I guess I just want to find out if this upgrade was an improvment over stock.

Thanks for getting back to me, thanks for your support, and thank you for your service. :thumb:

ill let you know how it turns out and drives. It should arrive next week, i dont have it on yet. I did already pull my Rize dual stabs, im thinking with this kit there will be no need for them, ill let you know how it turns out, and how it drives. I definitely takes the stress off the other parts. By the way PSC and ******* both make similiar kits, i called them all, ORU is only one that is 100% bolt on, and has great reviews all over the internet, and those guys know superduties well, so thats why i went that route, ill let you know.

Let me know how this turns out. I blew the money for a Red Head steering box and a remanufactured Ford PS pump and it still wont turn at a stop with 35's I have talked to PSC and as soon as I have an extra $500 I will do the upgrade. Can you take some photos of the bracket that bolts to your Diff cover as I would like to fabracate a bracket. Look forward to hearing how it drives

Yeah, I'd like to know how day to day steering is. I heard that you have to turn the wheel more to get the same amount of steering...That would drive me nuts, but again, this is just hearsay that I heard.

I dont have it on my F350 but I do have a PSC ram on my K5 with a front Dana 60 and I have no issues driving it on the road. It steers fine, normal speed and has no issues with return to center either. I tapped my original gear box and modified my existing pump.

Once again not a superduty but a little daily driving hydro assist on a Dana 60.

Oh the front spiders are welded into a spool and it runs 37s. NO problem turning at all.
