Hello Gents,
James Wiger here, I'm a SSgt. in the US Air Force, i spent 4 months in Iraq, re-enlisted there, got a nice chunk of change. And now I have a Nice 05 Powerstroke, and my7 wife has a 05 Ford Freestyle.

First things first, i'm comming up on the first Oil change. what brand of Oil do you guys prefer. I use vavoline synthetic in my 84 SVO and durablend in every thing else but i know it's not rated for Diesel engines.

Thanx in advance
-james

:dunno: I bought it like that.

I've seen mixed reviews on doing it like that. I haven't ever had any scares.

Of course, the most 4X4 it does is good roads on my hunting land and pulling hay from the field, the rest ifs hard top. A bit of drag racing from red light to red light.

I have been tempted to take the extra block out but I like the height.

Thanks! i guess i should mention my other rides as well. I have an '84 SVO mustang and a '65 Chrysler New Yorker. The Mustang is stiped down and the interior is gutted to make it as light as possible. i litterally pulled out any thing that wasn't necessary like the seatbelt and open door buzzer, etc.

The New Yorker is a 4 door hard top with a 413 (basicly a smaller bored 440) it has over 400,000 miles on the original engine, with typical maint. (i.e. water/fuel pump, distributor, starter, carb-rebuild) and still gets around. i just bought the trialer you see in the second pic and made sure it can handle the 65 which will be resto modded with a EFI 440, 18 in. wheels, etc. just to update it and make it safe/fun.

So i have a lot experiance with gas engine of both spectrum (the carbed big block in the 65, and the turbocharged EFI 2.3 four banger in the mustang.

I don't have much experiance with diesels besides the crappy 6.2 and 6.5 GM engines in the humvees. but i do know that you can't run a diesel too lean.

Also i have a Gi-Hugic amount of storage on my home server which those two pics above are stored on. so if any one needs a pic hosted just email me at jwiger@hotmail.com or get my attention here. My home page is: http://jwiger.no-ip.info

I'll do my best to jump in to any trouble shooting going on, i'm quite good at technical stuff.

Later!

Dang Sarge, you think you’ve got enough toys?? Oh wait, there is no such thing now is there? :D I’m like you – been a gas guy all my life and spend every chance I get under the hood playing. I drag raced for a few years (hence my user name :D - had some bad luck), gave it up but am a total car nut. This is my first diesel, other than the ones I drove in the Army, so I’m going through a serious learning curve but loving it. :)
Thanks for offering to help on the tech side too! Hey if you’re into the tech side, shoot me a pm, or let’s move to the general forum and talk computer nerd stuff – I’ve got an AWESOME setup I love to brag about. :D
Oh where are you stationed at now?

Thank You

:D Yep...a great big THANK YOU for your service!!!! Nice to know that people still care.

As for the oil...I would go with the AMS OIL

just google it and you will get what you need to see. Also, take a look at the polls section where we did one on what oil you use, I put more detail into it there.

Good luck and have a BLAST with your PSD!!!!!
