Well, I decided to change my coolant filter the other day for the first time. I have around 3 months and 5,000 miles on this filter. I installed the filter the day I got my truck back from my head job. Along with new heads, I installed a new radiator, and all new hoses. I thought some of you may like to see what was inside (and is probably inside of yours as well). I know some people question the benefits of the coolant filter, but I am a believer. This crap should not be in your cooling system.
I didn't flush. I installed new heads and replaced the radiator and all of the hoses. Replaced the oil cooler. Running Motorcraft gold at the moment, but will be changing to ELC soon.
Yep, that looks like casting sand. It's crazy how it could still be in your coolant, but it is and why we recommend the coolant filters... Glad yours is doing a good job. :thumb:
Agree, looks like there's some silicate gel in there too. If you've seen the pics of the clogged oil cooler after it's dried some with all the silicate in it, looks just like that gel at the bottom of your filter cartridge.
So wait a minute, you mean to tell me that it actually works, and its not a bunch of broo haha witch-craftery? Amazes me still that some still tend to believe these trucks are "perfect" right off the factory line and don't need "tweaks/mods/adjustments" or however you want to term it. I cut my first open, after 130k, and it was right after a coolant flush! Found maybe a little bit more sand that you did! If i would have known about it, I would have ordered one the day i got my truck. No 6.0 should ever run without one! cheap insurance
Yea, I'm going to keep doing regular filter changes, and I hope to switch to ELC soon. But I'm pleased with what the filter has done so far.
